you can not see it very clearly but I got another wall cloud to the northeast.

and our bossy mockingbird that lives in the bush outside our front door, framed with the storm to the northeast.

6. Wasn't it Lubbock that had the really bad tornadoes back in the 70's?
If I'm not going completely nuts, I think it was Lubbock. Or maybe I'm nuts.

Anyway, we were driving from Houston up to Dumas (ding, dong daddy of Dumas?) and as we rounded a corner of the freeway, nothing but devastation was around. On the left hand side of the freeway where there had been beautiful fields of trees, there were denuded trees with corrugated medal sheets acting as decoration. On the right hand of the street, there were the remains of what had been a large apartment complex. Lots of rubble and occasionally a bathtub from the second floor would still proudly be standing.

I felt so awful for those poor people! I donated all of my shirts except for one I had on. Bought new when we got to Dumas. You can't imagine the damage, the delicacy, the devastation and the loss until you've lived through a tornado.

So, where do I move from? Dallas. Where do I move to? SW Ok. I have a very healthy fear of tornadoes and part of it goes back to one that hit Dallas when I was 5. My Dad called my Mom to tell her it was headed her way as he watched it skirt along a small part of i-35. Mom put us under the heaviest bed and told us to be quiet because tornadoes could smell, hear, see and sense you. Thankfully, it didn't hit our house but we could hear the roar as it went over and touched down 2 blocks away.

It's funny but kinda sad...even though I know as a 52 year old female, tornadoes can't breathe, smell, hear or see; there's still that little kid like part of me who believes. I can't begin to tell you how many times I climbed into the bathtub at our house in Ft. Worth, surrounded by 3 dogs, 2 cats, my purse and shoes and lots and lots of pillows.

7. May 11th 1970
An F-5 tornado went through downtown Lubbock. Killed 12-15 people. They had big stories on it all week long.
