Why Do Cats Sit on The Window Ledge?
My office is across the street from an apartment building, and there's a cat that sits on the window ledge.

in the sun. It's warmer, and a lot more fun than skulking in some cool dark spot.

My calico is too fat to sit on the sills so she has to sit on the arm of the couch and look out.

She has made a large hole in the screen and jumps up on the outside ledge to announce that she is ready to come in. The window is near my computer. Funny she should pick THAT window, huh?

See my Pad Thai in his kitty walk -- he can sit out and smell and feel the sun all in the safety of my patio.

19. Pad Thai - what a lovely name
When I was house hunting one of the first things I noticed about my current home were the massive window sills. My cats live on them. I'm always delighted by their interest in what's going on outside.

I live deep in the country and used to let some of my cats run free. But with all the logging going on deep in the woods behind me there's too many coyotes around, now. Besides, I recently saw an obviously diseased racoon in broad daylight. Of course my animals have all their shots, but I still don't want them attacked and possibly hurt.

I like Pai Thai's run a lot. Thanks for the idea.

17. They Are Outdoor Animals By Nature...

..and they still have an instinct to hunt and kill. I've heard cats are the only animals we cannot tame (domesticate and remove the killing instinct), 100%.

21. What predatory animal ever has it's killing instinct removed?
Domestication is such a vague concept. If it can live with humans and not hurt them and not suffer itself as a result, it's tame in my opinion.

I have a large, sprawling home. The Thunder Muffins can hear me pull floss from the far end of the house. I absolutely HAVE to close the door if I want to floss in peace.

22. There's a grey and white kitty
that hangs out around my house at night. Don't know if it's a stray or belongs to a neighbor. It'll get up on the ledge outside the dining room window and just sit and look in. Soooo cute ! Would like a kitty of my own but Mr. 'pede and the pooch say no.

23. Answer
According to the book, "The Fur Person" by May Sarton, they are reading the news. Cat news comes in the form of looking for signs that other animals have walked through the yard and they also like to watch what is going on outside and daydream about what they'd like to see happen.

There's a lotta cool stuff to watch, and they've gotta do that, in between 17-hour naps. :)
