Should I bother watching "The Last Samurai" on HBO?
I mean, Tom Cruise playing the part of the last Samurai? He's not even of Asian descent. But maybe it is a good movie. I have no idea.

Input is appreciated.

1. The title refers to Japanese Samurai
Watch the movie, it's not as bad as some people say it is.

2. YES!!
It an excellent movie watch it. I own it and I not that fond of Tom Cruise as an actor. Ken Watanabe is excellent in it. (nominated for an Oscar)What I am interested in is that Lance Henriksen did a movie of the same name and from the blurbs I have seen its basically the same story. I would like to see that version just for kicks.

4. Definitely watch it.
As a rule, I severely dislike Tom Cruise's acting, but the movie is phenomenal. Ken Watanabe is a real treat, and the story and cinematography are top-notch.

9. Perhaps I am the only person here ...
Who thinks Tom Cruise is a decent actor ...

Rain Man ...

A Few Good Men ...

Jerry Maguire ...

ALL were oscar worthy performances ...

Heck: As LT. Caffey, his performance stands shoulder to shoulder with that of Jack Nicholson's Col. Jessup ... ANYONE who can themselves shine in his light is a phenomenal artist in their own right.

I know some human beings HATE good looking people, and so find the smallest fault to harp on .... But damnit: Tom Cruise, pretty boy that he is, has had some AMAZING roles which he has passionately acted ...

See this movie, even if for the outstanding cinematography ...

15. ugh.
I enjoyed Tom Cruise's performance in Magnolia right up until the deathbed scene. At that point, I lost all belief in his character as a real person. He couldn't pull it off, IMO.

And I have no problem with incredibly good-looking actors, provided that they can actually impress me with their acting. Brad Pitt. Brendan Fraser. Hugh Jackman.

13. You people are awesome
I was afraid, but now I'm not. My alternative is to watch more of Seinfeld, season #3. But I can watch that later.

I will watch the movie.

I am not a Tom Cruise hater. I loved "The Firm" and "Collateral," among others.

Thanks,

Floog

18. I also think Tom Cruise is a good actor:
Born on the Forth of July was worthy of an oscar - IMHO. In fact, there are few movies of his that I don't like.

25. Hey there, Floogeldy!
Thanks for the compliment! My husband and I are VERY choosy about what we watch, so I hope you agree that it's terrific. The beginning of it is a little strange, but once it gets going (and you'll know when that happens) it really takes off and is beautiful and wonderful.

:loveya: back at you!

a little long. But I gave it a "B" when I reviewed it.

28. I watched it and liked it very much
I do not think it is Cruise's best role, but he gave it a damn good effort. The story line saved the movie.

And, oh my gosh, I am so in love with Koyuki.

Thanks.
