Distressed American Finally Moves Into The 1990's - Check Out The New Look
http://www.seedsofdoubt.com/distressedamerican/main.htm

I have gotten tons of comments from folks over the months regarding the pitiful state of my website. Its color scheme was said by many to be headache inducing. Others noted that it was difficult to navigate.

Well those days are over!

I have spent the last several days working on a MAJOR SITE REVISION. I have added frames to improve the navigation issues. I sub-categorized a great deal of information to reduce the endless scrolling and I have toned the color scheme WAY DOWN.

I have plans to rearrange all of the image galleries to include just clickble thumnails. That should eliminate the scrolling and slow loading issues on those pages. However, that is a project for another day or days.

Please pardon the ugly header. I will design something better tomorrow. It is just a place holder.

Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Is it an improvement? Is there still anything that annoys you?

Thanks to everyone who have already given me the input that resulted in all of these changes!

See I can take constructive criticism!

2. I like it and I'm glad to see the penguins are back
I like that you've added the new navigation bars. Cuts down on scrolling.

The background doesn't compete with the content anymore.

I like the new hate mail feature. I don't know why but I find them so funny. The haters always make such asses of themselves.

3. You can always count on freeper hate mail to make you laugh!
Always brightens my day to know that I pissed one off enough to make them write.

The section has always been there. It was an overlooked text link way down the main page. Glad to see that the new layout will keep it visible!

Thanks!:pals:

5. Sweet, dude!
Much improved!! I would change the size of your left menu so that it doesn't need a scroll bar, and just remains fixed there, but it's SO much easier to find things and to navigate! :bounce:

6. I an actually planning on making a nested set of links on the left
with each of the features, etc. so you can jump right to the subsections as well as the major sections. That will take it the extra navigation step. That is not TOO much is it?

Glad you are liking it!

7. Nope, I don't think that's too much
As long as the whole nested thing fits in that frame, sounds good!

8. Yeah, I'll Play With The Fonts And Make It Work.
I think it will be nice to see everything in a short list of easily accessed links.

9. No, no, PLEASE don't use frames; people hate them, and besides,
it's a "mark of an amateur." Just like having all of your text centered.

PM me with a reminder (because it's late and the drugs are kicking in), and I'll look at your site tomorrow and give you some commentary.

I do this stuff for a living, so would be happy to help you as much as I can.

10. That Would Be Great. I Can Use All The Advice I Can Get.
I have been muddling through as best as I can. Amatuer would be the word. I am making improvements with the help of anyone willing to offer avdice. It still looks likd of finky. But, I assure you it is much improved over where it was just this morning.

I am sort of trapped in training wheel hell right now, using Frontpage. Some suggestions on a better program would be a big help.

12. Dude!! Are you the guy that looks like Steve Jobs?
Did you post pics from Boston with a splendid little baby?

In the next 48 hours I will make you a nice pure CSS frame-less site. For free.

Just the index page at first. If you like it can help with the rest.

I need to sober-up. In the morning I will start work. I do this type of thing for fun. I will post what I come-up with in this thread. You should get a PM too. Do you mind a solid color background?

18. Not at all. I was thinking of going back to one.
I am so psyched. I'd love a better design but, I am just really not that web savy. I really just taught myself what I have so my graphics would have a home.

Feel free to play with it anyway you see fit. I am wide open to the design options out there. I'll just be happy if the design stops turning people offf before they have a chance to dig the content!

I am so glad I posted!

For comparison with the Jobs shot:

20. I Just Had To Google Your User Name! Good One. Cryptic!
Here's what I found:

http://www.worldwidewords.org/weirdwords/ww-omp1.htm

OMPHALOSKEPSIS
Contemplating one’s navel as an aid to meditation.

This word seems to be relatively new, at least the Merriam-Webster “Word of the Day” column claims it to have been invented only in the 1920s. It turns up in only a few dictionaries and seems to be a word that survives more for the chance to show off one’s erudition than as a real aid to communication. If so, this article is a further perpetuation of its unreal status. It is formed from two Greek words, omphalos, “navel, boss, hub”, and skepsis, “the act of looking; enquiry”. The former turns up in words such as omphalotomy, “cutting of the umbilical cord”, in the related omphalopsychic for one of a group of mystics who practised gazing at the navel as a means of inducing hypnotic reverie, and omphalomancy, an ancient form of divination in which the number of children a woman would bear was determined from counting the knots in her umbilical cord at birth.

23. Notice the belly button in my sig...

It is above the stem on the right-most daisy (the center of the cup). The rippled band on the right is a skirt.
