Ginger is just a plain housecat, no special breed. His mom is my mother-in-law's gray cat, who was a wild kitten living on one of the Alps. And his father was a stray in our neighborhood. I bet he'd love you, too. Ginger's got a thing for the ladies. Whenever I have female friends over, he flirts by hooking his tail around their ankles. (That always reminds me to see whether our homeowner's insurance covers cat-induced accidents.)

Last Christmas, my mom sent Ginger a "WackyCat" toy . . . one of those plastic sticks with a feather attached to an elastic string. We refer to it as "The Cat Toy From Hell," because once Ginger gets interested in it, we have to play with him _for hours_ !

Ginger is getting ready to have his favorite dinner: boiled chicken breast, along with some vitamin-enriched salmon-based dry cat foot. Doesn't smell too tasty to me, but he's the boss today!

32. I can proudly tell you, enigmatic . . .

that Ginger is the only one of that litter who has _never_ peed indoors. My mother-in-law has Ginger's sister, Tabitha, and my sister-in-law has his brother, Barley, and we all live in the same neighborhood, so all of these former kittens have freedom to roam all three houses. Everyone's sofa has been peed on, but no sofa has been peed on by Ginger. (We think it's because from the moment he was born, we visited him daily, talking with him, rubbing him all over and generally getting him accustomed to all the sounds, touches, sights and smells he would encounter in his new home.)
