Also, answer some of my questions. Like, how likely am I to lose that damned ten pounds by the end of the summer?

1. Is it uphill, both ways?
:hi:

My dh does the same, except that it is about 90 miles each week. Good workout, saves on gas.

3. There are mild uphills each way.
But it's Chicago, so nothing brutal.

7. If you did that in Boston, the hills would kill you
you never realize how hilly Boston is until you cycle! x(

8. San Francisco is brutal that way too
Bike messenger in SF must be the most physically demanding job in the world.

9. The last hill
that dh tackles each day is a mile-long snake through a cemetery. The switchbacks are amazing.

It does get easier, the more you take the hills. I live in the hills now, so I cannot avoid biking up or down a bunch of them.

2. What do you do for a living?
Do you have to wear a suit?

5. I'm a programmer.
Hackers are traditionally seated in the basement, behind the boiler, where no one important sees them. So dress isn't important.

4. If you take a really long ride once a week, you'll be much more
likely to lose the extra fat. I know that when I ride (and damn I'm late starting this year) I consider the first 30 minutes as a wash, and only the time after that counts towards weight loss, as supposedly the first 30 minutes just burns off the sugars that are already in your blood stream.

6. Just my luck
My commute is 35 minutes in the morning and longer (50 or even 60) coming home. The evening takes longer because I'm tired and usually riding into a stiff wind.
