Whoever vandalized the Calatrava wing of the Milwaukee Art Museum over the weekend has done the same thing elsewhere in town, Milwaukee police said Monday.

Police don't have anyone in custody and declined to talk about suspects, but based on certain aspects of the graffiti, it is a group detectives are familiar with, said Capt. Mike Young. He didn't give details of where and when the group has struck before. He said it was not gang graffiti.

Vicky Reddin, communications manager for the art museum, said this was the first time the white museum was tagged with graffiti since it opened in October 2001.

"People here are upset and disappointed that someone would do something like this to such a public building," she said, adding that many people had called the museum to express their concern and that some local hardware stores had even offered assistance with supplies to clean off the spray paint.
