Ever Read Ralph Elison's The Invisible Man?

I was glad that I got to do that one as part of a class because there's a lot of historical references and allusions that I'm not sure that I would have gotten on my own.

If you like Invisible Man, you should try "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides at some point (if you haven't). It's bears some similarities to Invisible Man but substitutes the thematics and treatment of sexuality and gender for race and race relations.

There have been a fair number of good books that have come out in the last ten years or so, but Middlesex was *the* one that I was positive would become a "classic" and that I would have to hear my future offspring complaining about reading in high school.
