best ever love song?
it's a good idea, from time to time, to have a best love songs thread.

i can't pick just one, so i'll offer these:

sara (bob dylan)
kiss of life (sade)
truly, madly, deeply (savage garden)
tupelo honey (van morrison)

... ... ...

... actually, i don't think you can better than tupelo honey! ;-)

so what are your favorite love songs?

1. Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darin
Last summer the Prophet and I were on Hilton Head Island for a vacation and the day he proposed, we danced in the surf of the ocean and he sang "Beyond the Sea" to me. It was the most romantic moment of my life. :loveya:

6. Isn't it, though?
I got a little teary eyed just typing it. Hilton Head will always hold a special place in our hearts.

2. My pick is self-serving
Since my name's Beth, I go for Kiss' "Beth"

Then again, I'm trashed right now & being self-serving. . .

One of my faves in college was Marillion's "Kayleigh"

5. But, Beth...
"Beth" doesn't turn out that great. That Beth doesn't seem to be all that important to her beloved.

10. For Crying Out Loud, Meatloaf (at least worthy of attention)
I was lost till you were found
But I never knew how far down
I was falling
Before I reached the bottom
I was cold and you were fire
And I never knew how the pyre
Could be burning
On the edge of the ice field

And the now chilly california wind
Is blowing down our bodies again
And we’re sinking deeper and deeper into the chilly california sand
Oh I know you belong inside my aching heart
And can’t you see my faded levis bursting apart
And don’t you hear me crying:
Oh babe, don’t go
And don’t you hear me screaming:
How was I to know?

I’m in the middle of nowhere
Near the end of the line
But there’s a border to somewhere waiting
And there’s a tankful of time
Oh give me just another moment to see the light of the day
And take me to another land where I don’t have to stay

And I’m gonna need somebody to make me feel like you do
And I will receive somebody with open arms, open eyes,
Open up the sky and let the planet that I love shine through

For crying out loud
You know I love you
For crying out loud
You know I love you
For crying out loud
You know I love you

I was damned and you were saved
And I never knew how enslaved
I was kneeling
In the chains of my master

I could laugh but you could cry
And I never knew just how high
I was flying
Ah, with you right above me

I’m in the middle of nowhere
Near the end of the line
But there’s a border to somewhere waiting
And there’s a tankful of time
Oh give me just another moment to see the light of the day
And take me to another land where I don’t have to stay

And I’m gonna need somebody to make me feel like you do
And I will receive somebody with open arms, open eyes,
Open up the sky and let the planet that I love shine through

For crying out loud
You know I love you
For crying out loud
You know I love your
For crying out loud
You know I love you

For taking in the rain when I’m feeling so dry
For giving me the answers when I’m asking you why
And my oh my
For that I thank you

For taking in the sun when I’m feeling so cold
For giving me a child when my body is old
And don’t you know
For that I need you

For coming to my room when you know I’m alone
For finding me a highway and driving me home
And you gotta know
For that I serve you

For pulling me away when I’m starting to fall
For revving me up when I’m starting to stall
And all in all
For that I want you

For taking and for giving and for playing the game
For praying for my future in the days that remain
Oh lord
For that I hold you

Ah but most of all
For cryin’ out loud
For that I love you

Ah but most of all
For cryin’ out loud
For that I love you

Ah but most of all
For cryin’ out loud
For that I love you

When you’re crying out loud
You know I love you

15. The Air That I Breathe - the Hollies
If I could make a wish
I think I’d pass
Can’t think of anything I need
No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat, no books to read

Making love with you
Has left me peaceful, warm, and tired
What more could I ask
There’s nothing left to be desired
Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak
So sleep, silent angel, go to sleep

Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
Yes to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe

Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak
So sleep, silent angel, go to sleep

Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
Yes to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe

Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you...

18. My current favorite is actually more of a "falling in love song",
but I like it because it captures all of the fear and uncertainty along with the warm fuzzies.

Cannonball - Damien Rice

Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Still a little hard to say what's going on

Still a little bit of your ghost your witness
Still a little bit of your face I haven't kissed
You step a little closer each day
Still I can't say what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball

Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer to me
So close that I can't see what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannon

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to cry
So come on courage!
Teach me to be shy
'Cause it's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna scare her
It's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna lose
It's not hard to grow
When you know that you just don't know

25. The Search is Over...
...by Survivor

Jim Peterik/Frankie Sullivan)
Published by EMI Virgin Music, Inc. - ASCAP/Rude Music, Inc. - BMI

How can I convince you what you see is real
Who am I to blame you for doubting what you feel
I was always reachin', you were just a girl I knew
I took for granted the friend I have in you

I was living for a dream, loving for a moment
Taking on the world, that was just my style
Now I look into your eyes, I can see forever
The search is over, you were with me all the while

Can we last forever, will we fall apart
At times it's so confusing, the questions of the heart
You followed me through changes, and patiently you'd wait
Till I came to my senses, through some miracle of fate

I was living for a dream, loving for a moment
Taking on the world, that was just my style
Now I look into your eyes, I can see forever
The search is over, you were with me all the while

Now the miles stretch out behind me, loves that I have lost
Broken hearts lie victims of the game
Then good luck, it finally stuck like lightning from the blue
Every highway's leading me back to you
Now at last I hold you, now all is said and done
The search has come full circle, our destinies are one
So if you ever loved me, show me that you give a damn
You'll know for certain the man I really am

I was living for a dream, loving for a moment
Taking on the world, that was just my style
When I touched your hand, I could hear you whisper
The search is over, love was right before my eyes
