I've only alerted once and it was because of a specific post; not because I was trying to get a poster banned.

I think there are some people on here who are way too antsy about getting people banned from here, but maybe that's just me. I don't really like the sort of environment that creates, though.

someone says, that's no reason to go crying to mods about it. There is a REALLY cool feature called 'Ignore'. More folks should learn to use that as opposed to trying to police the forums.

IMO, the "alert" feature ought to REQUIRE the person alterting to pick from a list the EXACT rule thought to have been violated, and alerts should not be able to be submitted without this information. That would get rid of a lot of the behaviors mentioned previously regarding using "alert" as a weapon to try to get users banned.

...a blatant personal attack (i think i have alerted 2 times for that)
...something truly disgusting (like a picture of an aborted fetus in a "puppies and babies" thread)
...an obvious FReeper flameout
...once or twice I have alerted with a message like "you might keep an eye on this one - RW talking points?"

23. My biggest problem is that I see people here in the lounge,

and their funny, and compassionate, and supportive, etc. Then I see them in GD doing personal attacks, and being generally obnoxious, I leave and let it go. Everyone has bad days and blind spots.
