Name some of your collectible, rare, hard to find records, CDs or...
..other forms of recorded media.
I started collecting albums at the age of 5. By the time I was 8 I had a huge collection (35 or so..lol) It was a big collection for my age anyway. I now have over 1,000 vinyl, close to that many CDs and a lot of other crap.
Through the years I have collected some pretty cool things.
Here are a few things I have:

*AC/DC- Powerage Promotional release
*Elvis Presley- 78 of Hound Dog/Don't be Cruel
*Hank Williams- 78 of Hey Good Lookin'
*Stone Temple Pilots - Purple on purple vinyl
*Alice in Chains- Jar of Flies and Sap double vinyl (still sealed)
*The Beatles- Sessions (An album that was going to be released of unreleased songs-it never came out, but I got a copy)
*Soundgarden-Black Hole Sun CD singles boxed set

That's a few. I'm sure I can come up with a lot more.
What cool things do you have?

I didn't know they released that. I have a vinyl version of Sticky Fingers that was "remastered". I have one with the zipper too, but I don't know if it is a first issue.

3. I have most of Elvis' 33 rpm records, originals, too
No scratches, either. I've often wondered what they were worth!

I also have a TON of records from the 60's and early 70's, also in playable condition. Haven't played them in some time, but I hung on to my high end turntable...ya never know!

The older Elvis ones might be worth some
The soundtracks mainly. This stuff is like anything else, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
I will take the Elvis ones off your hands...LOL.

45. I went through my box and found these with a quick flip
Elvis' Christmas album
Fun in Acapulco
Kissin'Cousins
King Creole
For LP Fans Only
50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong
GI Blues
Blue Hawaii
It Happened At the World's Fair
Vol 3 Elvis' Golden Records
Pot Luck with Elvis
Elvis Presley/Loving You

I also found a live VENTURES album--The Ventures ON STAGE, Around the World--In Japan, England, and the US...boy did I love that, back in the day!

I've got a shitload of stuff. I probably should think about selling some of it, but I've no idea what the value is, plus, I am somewhat lazy about that sort of thing! And then, there's the memories!

I have some albums that are trashed, but I have had them since I was a little kid and I can't think of throwing them out.
The Ventures album would be fun to listen to. And that's a decent Elvis collection too:)

-Thirteenth Floor Elevators "Easter Everywhere," VG+ First Edition, on International Artists

my Dad has pledged to leave me his albums when he dies. So, they'll be mine in thirty years or so! (of course, I hope they become mine later than sooner)

Some of these include:

The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers LP (with the zipper, outtasight!)
Actually, a lot of Stones albums, original releases.
Some Beatles stuff, the Magical Mystery Tour complete with storybook. The White Album as well. Some Led Zep, some Pink Floyd. He's got a ton of albums, but I can't remember all of them.

29. Whistler, Chaucer, Detroit & Greenhill
Edited on Fri May-06-05 01:50 PM by Bridget Burke
(The Unwritten Works of). Embryonic Texas folk rock.

Parable of Arable Land and God Bless the Red Krayola & All Who Sail With Her (by Red Krayola). Plus Corky's Debt to his Father by former Krayola Mayo Thompson.

Easter Everywhere by 13th Floor Elevators (Alas, no copy of Psychedelic Sounds...)

The first Holy Modal Rounders LP on Prestige. Plus Indian War Whoop & The Moray Eels Eat the Holy Modal Rounders--but one can actually listen to HMR #1 without your ears bleeding.

2 LP's by Uncle Walt's Band. (Damn, they should have been world famous.)

Herschel Berry & The Natives. (Who also should have been famous.)

In Texas Last December by Richard Dobson.

Singles by BOTH the Hemmer Ridge Mountain Boys & The Ooze Brothers.

(Time to fire up the turntable!)

Edited to add: All vinyl!

& why not add The Chieftans in China--quite rare on CD. How many western musicians can jam with the Chinese dudes?

35. Mostly local/regional artists & not easy to categorize....
Natives & Elevators: ROCK!

Red Krayola: Avant-rock & weirdness.

Richard Dobson & the Hemmer Ridge boys: Folk. (Running Buddies of Townes van Zandt.)

Holy Modal Rounders #1 is deranged Old Timey, with one tune featurign the first recorded use of the word "psychedelic." Further experimentation rendered some of the later works almost unlistenable--but collectible!

Uncle Walt's Band were smooth folk/swing. Lyle Lovett was a fan & helped get 2 CD's released from the LP material.

36. Your query sent me to the closet with the old LP's
that haven't made it to half price yet. Was SURE I had the original Louie Louie given to me by a swooning student way back when. Couldn't find it.

But did find "AIRMAN!" apparently bought by my deceased husband when he was in the Air National Guard avoiding Nam in the sixties. Does that count?

It was recorded at Lackland with the "cooperation of the Us Air Force" in 1959.

From the jacket

"HERE ARE the voices of basic training: the fearsome shouts of the TI's, the groan-filled cadence of PT, the barracks bull session, the stammered security instructions of the big inspection, and the recruit's piercing scream before he lands in the icy waters of the obstacle course."

61. Let's See...
A few...

--The Moray Eels Eat the Holy Modal Rounders (saw someone posted the first one by them...this one is REALLY WEIRD).
--Velvet Underground-White Light White Heat (Original)
--X-Ray Spex-Germ Free Adolescents (although not so collectible on vinyl any more since the CD finally came out)
--Arthur-Dreams & Images (Great psych record on Lee Hazelwood's label)
--Martin Denny-Exotic Moog (Yes, I need to dub this off for a friendly user here on DU...I'm REALLY SLOW about that kind of thing!)
--Bonzo Dog Band-Gorilla (Mono promo...don't know if it was ever officially released in Mono)

And tons of rare indie/punk/noise 45's from the 80's as well as a lot of limited psych/folk oddities from the past few years. I still LOVE vinyl, and buy cool stuff when I can find it...

Great thread btw!

They crack me up.
And thanks, I thought it would be cool to see what people have. Now that I am done casing the joint, I will go buy my black hood and pry bar.:)
There is some cool stuff on here that people have.

66. He used them for some of his projects
I'm sure you know that. They ended up suing him, or Yoko..one of the two.

68. dead kennedys - fresh fruit for rotten vegetables with the orange cover..
Edited on Fri May-06-05 04:33 PM by frylock
still has the poster that was included as well. I have 3 different vinyl copies of this LP (orange cover, black cover w/anonymous band on the back, black cover w/anonymous band's heads removed for copyright violation). Also most of the Iron Maiden 12" releases (incredible artwork).
