Wow....some people really cling to grudges.
Worked for a small operation a few years back. The man who ran the business turned it over to his wife who really didn't like me and installed her friend in my job and got rid of me.

I made the best of it and tried to make the parting amicable and quiet and went on my merry way without making any waves.

Fast-forward 8 years later. I call this woman trying to find out if there is a number a potential employer can call to verify my employment with her husband's company that has since gone out of business in the event that it's needed.

She hung up on me before I could get two sentences out.

How sad that someone clings to that kind of thing.

2. Sort of like when the Soviet Union went out of business...
A lot of those old rivalries allegedly dead and "brainwashed" away for decades came surging back.

Was this woman the jealous/suspicious type?

3. This won't help that kind of hurt
but if the business had to have a state license to operate, you can get confirmation of the business and should be able to find copies of the federal state withholding taxes that were taken out in your name.

If you saved your old tax returns, you might even have the information without going through a long hunt.

7. I am completely indifferent to her emotionally.
I just found her reaction to be pathetic. I always try to live by the tactic that cordiality and professionalism cost nothing.

I don't quite get people like her. In the final analysis her canning me was a godsend in that led me into a job paying twice what I was making working for her until last year when the job was outsourced. The only reason I even bothered to try to make contact was there was the possibility a current offer would need to verify my employment all those years ago.

10. How do you know its about you ?

The reaction COULD have reflected baggage about having anything to do with the business at all. Maybe she just doesn't want to deal with anything about it that she doesn't absolutely have to - after all you don't know what happens there or to her after you left.

Hey, everything isn't all about you :-)

4. Fuck her!
She showed you how she is when she installed her friend and got rid of you. Just tell any potential employers that you don't know how to contact them.

8. I can't imagine how.
It's not like I am even remotely intimidating (at least, not from my viewpoint...who knows how other people see you?)

6. My old boss just got fired!
Edited on Wed May-04-05 03:46 PM by Rambis
She systematically got rid of all 12 people that I worked with and they finally figured it out. I was one of the first to go (she hated me) and I told the big bosses in my exit interview some day you are going to realize this woman is nuts but you will have lost every good employee you ever had. Well 8 years later they woke up and told her to clean out her desk finish out the month "working" from home. LOL I feel vindicated!

11. I hate it when that happens too
I don't really understand why when people hate me, they really hate me and do forever. I am half afraid of going to my 5 year college reunion because of that. I have an ex boyfriend, who I dated briefly as a freshman and who hadn't talked to at all since I was a freshman, who walked out of a career center seminar our senior year because I was there.
