DUers with iTunes
as I am at home recovering from a viral infection (probably a strain of the flu) let's vote for our iMixes. I know we all have eclectic tastes but I am sick of seeing some the contrived pop being voted up over there on iTunes. So if you put a link to your iTunes here, I promise to give it a good vote if you do the same for me.

Here are some of my iMixes

Okay that is it for now. Happy voting. And yes, I would have posted this in the music group forum but it is pretty dead in there. Thanks.

6. Woohoo! I gave it 5 stars.
Checked out your industrial mix - anyone who includes that much NIN, Skinny Puppy and some Ministry gets my vote. And there were a few songs in that mix I wasn't familiar with but very glad to have the chance to become friends with. Thanks!

If I can add a little editorial comment here.... some Current 93 wouldn't be a bad idea, especially Panzer Ruin which made me fall in love with industrial.

Now I'm gonna go check out your other mixes and maybe do mine. Mine however will probably be the least interesting being mostly Girls With Great Voices - KaTe Bush, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and not nearly enough Mama Cass with a little opera thrown in just to make it miserable for everyone :)

9. I know! And... Help!
They carry no Current 93. More fool them. Swastikas for Noddy is simply brilliant. Earth Covers Earth makes me glad to be alive. Fields of Rape always totally fucks me up. Loony Runes will always have a special place in my heart.

Anyway, now the help part. I did my iMix. Half of it didn't make it - only what they sell showed up. So most of the KaTe stuff is missing, some of the Tori Amos is missing, and all of the Fiona Apple. Since most of the good stuff was bootlegs I kinda expected it. But only one of my Bessie Smith songs worked? Shame. Bessie Smith is like milk - you need it to grow up strong and healthy.

Of course I screwed up by including no Doors or Janis Joplin or Grace Slick. Or Marlene Dietrich. Or REM or Bronski Beat or The Clash or X. So I will go stand in a corner now. But before I do that would someone please tell me how I figure out the URL to my iMix? So I can share it?

Oh yes and thank you so much for reminding me that Trent Reznor is god so that I spent half an hour trying to download Head Like A Hole because I suddenly realized I can't live if it isn't on my iPod.

Khash.

10. Sorry you couldn't find most of what you wanted
or rather iTunes doesn't carry it. My iMixes usually have more than what shows up at iTunes as well. You can request that they add some music. I think you go to the support section of iTunes to request music. I requested more Front Line Assembly and apparently so did others because there is more now. I've also requested more Ministry and Nitzer Ebb.

How do I figure out what the URL is?

(P.S. Thanks for requesting they carry Nitzer Ebb, at least some of us appreciate it.)

14. Sorry
You just right click on the album art after you make your iMix. It gives you a command to copy your url.

And this is especially for you...

21. Ok, cool.... and thanks
What a great pic! I used to hang out at alt.sex.trentreznor while mostly thinking "are you people actually serious?"

But in that pic he is actually kinda hot and very reminiscent of Dream from the Sandman comics....

So now I can combine my crush on Dream with my admiration for Trent and... and, um.... I need a few minutes alone.

25. Yeah I got the same deal
Either they screwed up or I did. Anyway, if anyone is still interested here's what's on the list:

Girls and Boys Blur
White Room Cream
I Know What Boys Like The Waitresses
Bela Lugosi's Dead Bauhaus
Third Uncle Bauhaus
Hell Squirrel Nut Zippers
Voodoo Godsmack
My Lagan Love Sinéad O'Connor
Oro, Se Do Bheatha 'bhaile Sinéad O'Connor
God Tori Amos
Me and a Gun Tori Amos
Walkin' After Midnight Patsy Cline
Bathwater No Doubt
In the Warm Room Kate Bush
Wow Kate Bush
Tear in Your Hand Tori Amos
Leather Tori Amos
September Song Willie Nelson
Wuthering Heights Kate Bush
Creeque Alley The Mamas & The Papas
Hindi Sad Diamonds Moulin Rouge
Dream a Little Dream of Me Mama Cass
Rattlesnakes Tori Amos
Closer Nine Inch Nails
Uncool Courtney Love
I'll Do Anything Courtney Love
Sunset Strip Courtney Love
Desperate but Not Serious Adam Ant
Credit in the Straight World Hole
Lithium Nirvana
Virginia Tori Amos
Pancake Tori Amos
Fade Into You Mazzy Star
Gimme a Pigfoot Bessie Smith
Losing My Religion REM
Crystal Ship The Doors

And that's half of it.... the other half of it didn't make it. iTunes doesn't sell it.

I look at that list and think "oh my gods! No Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, Psychedelic Furs, Siouxsie and the Banshees? No Neil Young, no Clash, no Sex Pistols, no Frankie Goes to Hollywood, no Human League, no Heaven 17, no King Missile, no Bronski Beat? What the hell was I thinking?"

Ah well.

Khash.

27. What version of iTunes are you running Khash?
There is really nothing to it. Just from the file menu select "create iMix" then publish. Hope you get it working.

13. Well
yeah, they do that in the hopes that you will download some music. The music you have in your mixes also has to be music that iTunes carries. Sometimes you have to change the tags on them to match exactly the tags that iTunes has for a particular song or iTunes does not even recognize it even though it carries the song or album.

17. I love iTunes
It has organized my music and given me an easy way to make custom cds for my car stereo. Most of the iMixes I've made are also custom cd's I've made. For me, it is the best out there for what it does. And the Apple lossless technology allows me to burn copies with very little data loss when compared to MP3. It has been good for me.

18. I totally agree on iTunes! I love it to death!
By "not worth my time" I meant the process of publishing my playlists.

I can't believe, either, how iTunes has helped me organize and keep track of all my tunes. Amazing little unit!

20. It ain't that bad
99 cents a song? Say a CD has twenty songs, you pay approx what you would for the CD, a little less than twenty bucks. But if you want one song it works out totally differently. I wanted godsmack's Voodoo and the Waitresses' I Know What Boys Like, for years. I could of course buy the CDs - 14 to 24 bucks - or simply download the songs for 99cents. Not a bad deal.

On the other hand... I got Blondie's Maria absolutely free and an entire unreleased Fiona Apple album. Plus a bunch of KaTe Bush stuff. Just go to google and type in MP3, Free, and the artist's name.

Still, iTunes is a pretty good deal. But oddly for Apple, it's not remotely intuitive and like most retailers they carry what the majority of their patrons want. So if you have odd tastes, you'll have to go elsewhere. But, really, Bessie Smith? I'm shocked and appalled.

Khash.
