I have just quit smoking for the final time!!!!!
I say the final time because I have tried to quit many times before. But, this is the last time. I have to quit this time, and so, I will. All of your warm thoughts and vibes are appreciated.

4. Good for you! I quit for the last time thirty years ago.
My heart doc says that's why I lived through my heart attack.

5. Something that might help....
When I quit smoking (about two years ago), I felt so deprived, even though the physical addiction was gone. All I could think of was that I'd never be able to "calm my nerves" with a cigarette again. About a month after my last ciggie, I woke up in the morning with an urge to smoke, then a thought hit me; "You don't NEED it anymore". That was a liberating thought--I still wanted one, but I didn't need one. It really helped me out. Once the psychological addiction lessened, the physical addiction went away completely. Best of luck, bugslsu9!

9. I know it hasn't been that long
this is day 1 for me, but by now I have normally had at least 4 cigarettes, and the only thing different is my chest feels tighter. I know that is a good thing. I will be coughing, but hey, I want to live for a long time!

10. I have a few good reasons to quit
My health, my Dad had a stroke earlier this year, and smoking can cause them. I want kids, but my wife and I will not even try until we have quit smoking. And finally, I am running for Congress, and I do not want to have to take a break from an event to go smoke. It is not something I would find attractive in a candidate, so I would think others would feel the same way.

Once you realize that you really, truly, despise the habit, it becomes much easier. Good luck to you! The only cig you need to avoid is that 1st one.
