Question from a guitarist: who's your favorite drummer?
I've been thinking about it, you've got the obvious choices like Neil Peart and Carl Palmer, maybe a Chad Bissonette (if you're into " (Maynard) then there are the ever popular "late greats" of Bonham and Moon.

But I've gotta go with Simon Phillips. His playing is so....flavorful. Adds just enough when you need it--but not too much ever.

Which is more than I can say for Tommy Aldridge.

1. I'm going out on a limb here
My favorite drummer of all time is the drummer I have been playing with for 30 years. Of course when we started playing together, we couldn't play..we were very young.
As far as I am concerned, he can play as well as 98% of the players out there, and gets better every time I hear him.
I have played with many and have heard many and he is one of the best.

9. Oooohhh,
I certainly don't question that. There are some amazing musicians just waiting to pop out. I know a guy named Troy who's unbelievable.

And a very good buddy of mine is such a superlative bassist--Oooh yeah, I get to go see him tommorrow night! You can probaly google Tim's band "Sam Keenan"

Very solid.

If anybody's wondering; I am an okay guitarist who started out as a British Metal fan in the 80s who has for some reason moved into fingerstyle accoustic--who knew?

I'm trying to get more in touch with my inner groove......:smoke:

12. Have you been to the Musician forum here?

Well, Bobby is really good. He is always the one everyone watches and comments on after all the shows he does. It's not because I play with him, it's because he is that good of a drummer and a great performer. A great talent.

13. I checked it out once or twice,
don't know why I haven't been back much.

My friend Tim, well after years of pestering finally accepted a job as a professor at a local music college. He's that guy who can show up in just about any band and GO. He's a consumate session guy. Busy enopugh to keep me happy--tasty enough to not piss-off everybody else!

3. This is my belief in drummers(Or percussion people in general)
The only way drummers should screw in a lightbulb is getting 5 of 'em together and have 1 hold the bulb and the other 4 drink until the room spins. That's why I choose Keith Moon because his crazy ass set the best pace you could ever ask for from a drummer on and off the stage.
IMHO

John Bonham and Billy Martin from Medeski Martin and Wood.

Also, the dude who played with Santana in the Woodstock Movie, Mike Shrieve I think is his name.

5. Stewart Copeland
He WAS the sound of The Police and more than any other drummer that I have ever heard, dominated the music that group made when they were at their best.

10. I dig really sparse, sharp drumming.
'90s heavy indie stuff is full of that - Thymmie Jones (Brise-Glace, You Fantastic), Mac McNeilly (Jesus Lizard, P.W. Long), Blake Flemming (Laddio Bolocko), Todd Trainer (Riflesport, Shellac) and Scott Giampinio (Cash Audio). But there's older stuff like that, too, like whats'isface from This Heat.

Oh, and Kid Millions from Oneida may be the best drummer in the world.

16. I'm familiar.
My old band used to cover "I Found That Essence Rare." Wish I could make it to one of the reunion shows - I've seen them, but never with Hugo Burnham playing. That would be SO badass!
