Thought I would share an experience I had driving home from work yesterday.
So I'm almost home, and on the stretch of road that narrows from 2 lanes going in my direction to one lane, about 100 feet after a stop light. I was in the left lane, as the right lane is the one that disappears. The stop light had been green when I passed through it, so I was still right around the posted speed, or perhaps up to 5 mph over; and decidedly past the point where the road goes to one lane. At this point, a beat up small sized pick-up comes zipping past me on my right, utilizing the bike lane, going at least 20 mph faster than I was. So I hit the horn registering my displeasure in his idiocy, and kept going. The next light about a quarter mile up is where I turn left, and it so happened that my idiot friend was going straight. Of course we ended up right next to each other waiting for the light to turn. He looks over at me and does a little shrug acknowledging that he realizes I'm the guy he just illegally cut off.
As we were both enjoying the nice weather, we had our windows down. So I took the opportunity to call over to him, "You're a Republican, right?"
He leaned over and turned down his radio, "What?"
"I'm guessing that you're a Republican."
I can see the gears in his head grinding as he mulls this over - he doesn't have any bumper or window stickers that might identify his political leanings - and he finally nods. "Yeah..."
I smile and nod. "I thought so."
He looks a little surprised, but manages a civil "Have a nice day." as the light changes to green.
"You too, man!" I call back.
It wasn't much, but it made my evening; and perhaps gave him something to mull over while he was going to sleep last night.
