I'm a Protestant but, damn it, I want a Pope!!!

Throughout the last few days, all the coverage of the Papal selection process has driven home to me a point of considerable concern:

Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and all non-Catholics... have a Pope gap.

How did we let this happen? I gather that the Catholic Church has acquired some 265 Popes over the years. How many have the non-Catholic faiths acquired?

Zip. Zilch. Nada.

This is a shattering discovery. We've let the Catholic Church gain the advantage on the field; they've been acquiring Popes for centuries and we haven't done a damned thing about it.

How can we expect to compete when we don't have any Popes of our own?

Therefore, I propose that all faiths - and perhaps even non-faiths - step up to the plate and begin to acquire newer, faster, more efficient Popes. Then, at long last, we may be able to fully compete with the Catholic Church.

1. Having a pope was one reason I left the Catholic Church.

It bothers me that people seem to worship him. He's a human being, not God. All the fuss really gives me the creeps. It's like an "elected" official has been made into a god. :scared:

Ok...so he's the head of the Anglican church.....but he has a neat hat.

Rowan Williams the Archbishop is pretty cool guy, but all the brouhaha about the gay bishop in the US has him on the ropes in the larger Anglican communion.

BUT .... the saving grace is that we have no pope, and neither Williams nor anyone else can tell us what to do.

The whole point about Popes is that they can zap everybody from a lowly priest in the Amazonian rain-forest right up to a Cardinal in Boston (and damn well should have done in the latter case).

Rowan the Fuzzy (as I've heard him called) couldn't really zap anything.

And Lambeth Palace is nothing on the Vatican.
