so how was everyone's weekend?

This was performance weekend here on campus, so I got to go the final play of the year (Diana of Dobsons), the spring band concert, and the spring Choral concert and I performed with the handbells at the Lutheran service this morning. All the performances were awsome and I'm so proud of all my friends who were in at least one of the performances this weekend. the other thing i did this weekend was the big open house/recruitment fair for incoming freshman. I worked the College Dems table of course and we had the kids and parents make PB&J Sandwiches for a local homeless shelter. That was a huge success as we were able to donate 26 sandwiches!!! Sadly though that's about the number who signed up to join the dems next year. This is a major reduction from the 75-100 we usually get, but this can be blamed on it being an off year i guess. overall it was a great weekend to enjoy the fine arts on campus and to just relax.

1. Well, I was thinking I had a fun weekend building a little stone wall

around the garden, BBQing, and doing some programming, but now I feel like a slacker.

3. One crappy thing....

happened for our town last night. We have a minor-pro hockey team in Anchorage... the Alaska Aces.

On our minor-pro team, we have a super-star NHL player. Scotty Gomez, who is currently on an NHL lock-out from the New Jersey Devils. Scotty had offers to play in Europe during the NHL lock-out for over $5,000 a week, but opted instead to give something back to the city he was born in, and played on our minor league team in Anchorage for a measly $500.00 a week.

Last night the Alaska Aces were playing the Bakersfield Condors in game 4 of the play-offs. The Condors coach told his team (according to our paper) "there's a reason he's an NHL All-Star, but we're going to have to step it up on him"

Long story short.. the Condors biggest goon player shoved Scotty into an open penalty box door knocking half his body over the door and into the box. Scotty was in severe pain laying there with a broken pelvis.

Incredibly, the Bakersfield Condors fans booed that their friggen player was getting a penalty over the incident. Scotty is out for the remainder of the season, but worse yet.. his NHL career could be in jeopardy.

We play the final game against that SOB team tomorrow night in Anchorage. I heard the tickets went on sale this morning and were gone within an hour. It's the final and deciding game. One team is eliminated, the other moves on to the next phase of the playoffs with another team.

I hope our team kicks their ass tomorrow night and knocks the bastards out of the playoffs. In other words... I hope they do it for Scotty!!
