1. He is a former slam teammate of a friend of mine

I met him once when he came to Seattle with my friend from college and a couple of other people on the Austin slam team. Eirik is great - a really funny and nice guy. :)

I always felt that 'poetry slams' were grossly overplayed and self-conscious.

Just read the poetry and let the words say what needs saying.

Slams, in my opinion are too...aggressive.

4. there's a some good slam here in milwaukee

we used to have this great open mic poetry set at this coffee shop that brought out all the hot slam poets but the place has since closed down; though a couple other joints have stepped up in an attempt to fill the void

though there are a lot of weekly or monthly open mic poetry sets around the city that feature all kinds of poets...there's usually always something good, something for everyone

i don't really follow it or pay much attention, just keep it local

6. I've been writing some poetry in my creative writing class

And I've been going down to this inner-city poetry slam in Miami. There's a lot of talent there.

Furthermore they all think they're deep, but really say obvious shit that a two-year-old could realize.
