A tribute to Greta Garbo
Who would be 100 years old today.

Garbo was one of the greatest Stars (with a capital S) of all - time. Stunningly gorgeous, talented, mysterious, and knew when to get out.

Her first spoken words to her audience were "Give me a whiskey, ginger all on the side. And don't be stingy, baby."

Happy birthday, Miss Garbo!

Happy Birthday, Svenska flicka! (That's what her one-time fiance John Gilbert called her). :)

2. One of my favorite human beings of all time
I rarely read biographies (and NEVER autobiographies) of celebrities but I've read several on Garbo. And Bankhead & Dietrich. That's it for my star worship.

3. Good choices
I'd love to read a bio of Bankhead. I've heard some pretty good stories about her.

9. Bankhead was truly an amazing person
Her biography is well worth the time to read.

I should point out that all of these ladies were WAY before my time! I'm just intrigued by what true stars were all about. I couldn't care less for what passes for stardom today.

However, the biography of barely known Edie Sedgewick is one of the great reads of all time, too.

10. Sorry
though I thought she was amazingly cool, my grandfather always called my mom Greta 'cause he thought she resembled her so strongly. And she did.

Unbeknownced to my Grandfather, they also shared the same birthday. . .September 18th.

She was however indeed born in 1905, just not quite yet.

Where did you get today as her birthday?

I just saw a news story about the Motion Picture academy celebrating her centennial. I guess they did it early.

14. Didn't intend to be a party
pooper. Just have been aware of her birthday since I was a kid.

You can still celebrate her now though. She refuted so much attention in her life, she might just enjoy it today. Who knows. . .?
