3. Holy shit, you have horrible taste in music
I mean, Christ, Starland Vocal Band? Are you a masochist? Damn, that's hardcore pain right there.

Debarge is like Prince + Morrisey - the talent.

I mean, ABBA sucks and all, but liking Starland Vocal Band is a sign that you're a sociopath.

11. How can you deny the catchiness of ABBA? It's like musical ebola
No matter how much you hate them, Dancing Queen and Fernando will wrap around your face and lay eggs in your torso, and three days later tiny bejumpsuited Swedish pop sensations will explode out of your stomach. Where do you think Ace Of Base came from?

35. Abba's catchiness is what makes them great
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 11:17 PM by mvd
And I also think they have sincere songwriting. It's all about the perspective you have.

I'm not really into Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken. Kelly's album Thankful isn't bad, but it's certainly not essential.

I've been listening to these lately:

Dido - Life For Rent: it has a folkier feel, and I enjoy it even more than No Angel.

Patty Loveless - On Your Way Home: a perfect melding of contemporary traditional sounds and bluegrass - with first rate songs!

Bangles - Doll Revolution: I'm a huge fan, and it's like they never left! :)

4. Hooray for Camper Van and P-Funk
I've always wanted to start a giant funk band that's a cross between P-Funk and The Talking Heads musically, and lyrically taking cues from Camper Van Beethoven, Pavement, and the Dead Milkmen.

28. Woah, dude...
I'm suddenly hearing "The Fez" with all kinds of cheez-whiz organs and shit in it. Man, that's a bad thing to do to a natural-born arranger (ask me how I turned "Let's Lynch the Landlord" by the Dead Kennedys into a disco tune once).

I've been listening to (ironically enough) The Dead Milkmen, the Dayglo Abortions, and a lot of Jello Biafra spoken word albums, because for some reason, almost none of my other CDs will play on my player, which is slowly going extinct (and me unemployed, goddammit! I'm going to have to either move the computer into my room where there's no space for it, or start listening to music only when I'm out here! argh!).

15. Were you in Cinci at some point, XNASA?
Cool Ghoul was the alter ego of a guy who used to do a "Count Floyd" style show on the pre-Fox independent station in Cincinnati.

I've got "Waiting For Columbus," the definitive Little Feat live compilation, on my CD-ROM player right now.

Doubtless if I stick with the computer, eventually I'll revert to some Sloan. I love hearing "Losing California" and "The NS" on Friday nights.

19. It's actually odd how little I've been in Cincy.
Just one of those places I've always seemed to miss, unintentionally of course. It's the only major city east of the Mississippi I've never visited. I reckon.

I don't remember where I picked the Cool Ghoul's disc. Probably in a gas station someplace. I've had it for at least 10 years.

Sloan. I like Sloan.

One of the most underrated new wave bands, Wall Of Voodoo was kind of like an American Joy Division, at least to my ears. Dark Continent and Call Of The West are great albums.

24. The best damn radio station on Earth, KYOT, Terlingua TX.
Went on a four day road trip to Big Bend National Park. There's a little town called Terlingua on the western end. It's the only small town in Texas that's habitable (before I moved to Texas, I lived in a small town in West Virginia, so I don't have a thing per se about small towns). There's a single radio station in that entire area (except for a few distant AM stations from Mexico), which plays Texas alternative mixed in with some folk, jazz, mainstream alternative, and classical.

25. I must confess ...
I have been listening to nothing but Clay Aiken's new CD since it was released on Tuesday!
I'm a "Claymate" and I don't care who knows it!

But my CD collection is made up of all kinds of music: pop, rock, metal, 80's pop metal, country, alternative rock, Broadway stuff, New Age, Dance, R&B and everything in between. Musical style isn't really an issue for me. There's no point in limiting myself to one type of music. :-)
