Once Walmart came in, within a few years all of the regional discount dept. stores in the northeast went out of business. I was so happy to see Target when it came on the scene a couple of years ago (it wasn't in CT before then). Makes me feel a little less guilty in life.

47. No, a leach field - and I'm being serious now - is part of septic systems

I don't know the full techniacl details, but our cabin on the lake has one and my parents had one - come to think of it, all the leach fields I know are for houses/bathrooms on hills, perhaps that's part of the deal. But anyway, it;s a way of using a chunk of land, maybe the size of a garage or larger, as part of the filtering process for the waste water from the toilets, so the septic stores only solid waste, not liquid, but then the solid also slowly filters away.

Like I said, I don't know the technical details, but that's what a leach field is.

whoever wrote the respones in the hate mailbag obviously doesn't know what a leach field is, so that emailer's insult didn't make any sense to him (the DUer who wrote the responses).

Made sense to me, though - I thought it was actually a rather clever slam, "democratic leach field". Actually shows an ability to use metaphorical language, which you don't often get from freepers. Hell, they usually can't even rise to simile.
