What pushes your buttons?
What pisses you off, very quickly? I don't mean republicans in general, or Dick Cheney in particular, but smaller, simpler things.

For me, it's being patronized. I am a VERY laid back guy, but treat me less than what I am for one second, and I'll be in your face

2. when someone tries to convert me
I am having no religion and tend to keep it that way. What pisses me off when someone thinks he/she has to change that and forces bible quotes on me.

and hell, i'm a christian. I've had a few attempted atheist coversions, but i've had WAY WAY more attempts by the fundies, to get me to "have a relationship with jesus", which apparently i don't have

God, I was so self-righteous and obnoxious when I was a fundy...how could people stand me? (Not that I'm not obnoxious now...LOL!) :D

9. Me too! I've had two people try to proselytize me back to fundyism...
...this year, not including my mother. I nearly clocked the missionary who thought the Iraq War was a good thing because so many Iraqis were coming to Jeeeeeeeeeeezus. She tried to lay hands on me when I told her I was an atheist. That is SO not OK with me.

The other proselytizer may have a complaint lodged against him soon. I just have to decide whether or not to do it. He used a friendship cultivated at the college...we're no longer close friends. He was just using the friendship to try to convert me. Fundies always have ulterior motives.

17. for me it was a guy I was together with for a short time
when I broke up with him he sent me an email telling me to read those and those parts of the bible. Or go to the next church, show the email to a priest, he would help me :wtf: The other good advice was "You are a clever woman, I am sure you can find a bible in a library. Read .... " I almost choked when I read the email.

35. Yep, and people without self-insight.
They don't ever question themselves or their motivations, but randomly and haphazardly go about their lives treating other people like things. I know myself and if you don't know yourself, who you are, or what you want, leave me the f*ck alone.

4. I can't stand ANYONE to put a hand near my face.
I go ballistic very quickly if someone puts a hand in my face--leftover PTSD from my abusive marriage. I can't deal with anyone invading my personal space, either. If I back away, don't step closer to me.

10. I would lose my mind...
Before I was married, one of my guy friends and I used to lick our palm and playfully slap each other on the forehead, just to pester each other. I know it's stupid, but we thought it was funny. That had to cease afterwards. Hands near my face make me "flashback."

11. Hypocrisy, lying and fundies who try to convert me.
Also, anyone who accosts me is likely to get an earful. The manager's husband came out of his apartment to yell at me over a teensy thing and I was actually going to get in his face. That would never have happened with the old fundy, Republican Ladyhawk. I actually stick up for myself now even though it feels weird.

15. one thing that really irritates me with regards to online behavior
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 02:22 AM by drumwolf
...is when someone responds to something I've posted on the Internet, and it's obvious from their response that they've barely read my posting at all. I get this all the time, whether it's a comment I've made in a thread on a discussion board or a classified ad or a personal profile.

The worst example of this was when I put up a personal profile on a web site. I was 27 at the time, and this should have been very obvious because I gave my date of birth. I got an email from a 17-year-old girl who wanted to be my pen pal, and I assumed that she knew I was much older. Turns out she didn't, and she was very disappointed when she found out how old I was and blew me off. For my part, I was extremely irritated that she didn't realize I was 27, something that was VERY obvious from my profile that she read (or, actually, DIDN'T read).

Another time, I put up a help-wanted ad on behalf of my company on a email listserve (this was in 1997). I said in the very first sentence, "If you're interested in this job, respond to the email address at the bottom of this email, not to me." Someone responded to me anyway. Needless to say, I discarded her email -- I mean, if you can't be bothered to read something this simple, it's probably not a good idea to hire you.

I'm sure most of you who've put up classified ads for anything have encountered this pretty often, where people will respond to your ad without having bothered to read the most basic, fundamental points you've made.

i basically collected the emails that i got either from CC, a big To entry, or untrimmed forwards, and was going to email all of them telling them that I now had their addresses, and so did every spammer, hacker, and sociopath on the internet. then tell them how i got the addresses, and hopefully scare them into not being morons. i stopped after a while, cause i lost the database file

22. That goes under the broader category of "people who don't know
how to use email." I see a lot of these doofuses doing other moronic things, like sending around chain emails and not even cleaning up all the crap that accumulates because the body of the email has been quoted so many times or has footers attached by Yahoo or Hotmail.

24. whistling
drives me up a wall. Don't know why. Flute music also puts me on edge.

In fact, loud offensive noises really push my buttons. I was having dinner tonight at the local brewery and three kids were RIGHT next to me playing a shrieking game of hide and go seek. They were horrendously loud. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I like kids, despite my persona here, but when they scream, it makes me nuts.
