What's the phrase, it's on the tip of my tongue it applies to medical case
where continuing treatment is basically delaying the inevitable, I've heard it at least a couple of times in the last week, but I forget what it was.

5. I think that was it, anyway, because....
they were arguing that she wasn't "terminal" as long as she was being fed. But, the point in "futile therapy" is that the patient is expected to never improve from PVS and all a feeding tube is doing is delaying the inevitable.

6. Are you thinking of "palliative"??
My mom has ovarian cancer. When first diagnosed, they said her chemotherpy was "curative." She's been fighting a year now and they have since changed that to "palliative." Meaning, they don't think they can cure the cancer with chemo, but they continue to treat her in order to give her a few more months.
