Was the NPR Segment on Maple Syrup an April Fool's Joke?
Did anyone hear it yesterday? Part of it dealt with rising sap causing maple trees to explode. Part of it dealt with people who boiled down maple furniture to make flavoring for "table syrup."

I didn't hear all of the segment, and can't decide if it was plausible or they were just spoofing their audience. I never heard of NPR doing that.

1. Probably. Last year they did a report on state-funded pet insurance.
And how some people were pissed that the government was paying for health care for pets, but not for people. It was hilarious. It had me going for a second. :D

2. Well, judging from the examples given
I'd say it was an April Fool's joke. I've sugared many, many times and beleive me, boiling maple furniture would just make a very nasty soup!

3. Thanks. It Just Didn't Occur to Me at the Time
because it's NPR.

4. Usually, Morning Edition or ATC (or both) do an
April Fool's story - I didn't hear the Maple Syrup one but for at least 5 years they've been doing a "gotcha!" story. One year they said that Starbucks was going to build underground pipelines throughout the country for fast, efficient, and quality-controlled delivery of their coffee...

5. Funny segment
I caught the joke early on. The instant they mentioned the 12 decapitations caused by the exploding trees, I thought "Hey, is this an April Fool's joke?" Then I remembered, why, yes, it's April 1. Whaddyaknow?

My mama didn't raise no fool.
