Poll question: What religion do you follow
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 10:12 AM by LynneSin
Obviously I can't list every religion and/or practice - but here are the major ones. I'll put in the other for all the smaller but just as important ones

1. Can we make a pact to not belittle anyone else's religion in this thread?
Please?

9. Precisely - No matter how you try to spin it, atheism is not a religion nt

3. Atheism is not a "religion" to "follow."
There's no catechism, no creed, no leaders, no edicts, no services, no sacraments, nothing.

4. True, but I still wanted them covered in there
My inability to best title this lil poll should not be reflected in the vote you make!!

6. Unitarian Universalism
Not a "religion", per se, but a liberal religious denomination.

7. What would be protestant
I mean, I'm a Quaker but we still fall under the protestant big tent.

14. UUism emerged from liberal Christian Protestant movements in
the 19th century, for the most part. The Quakers I know still consider themselves followers of Jesus (but that may not be the case for all Friends). UUism is no longer Christian, but, if you define "protestant" very broadly like Paul Tillich did, it could be considered "protestant," yes. But then again, Buddhism is "protestant" when compared to its Hindu origins (it was a reaction to the overly complex traditionalism of Hinduism at the time).

10. That's how I see my UU affiliation too
Even though UU stems from Christianity I attend and with sermons I think of the human power to make change and deal with life's struggles. And what we can do as a community. I just see it as an extension of my liberal, domcratic self. So I am UU but I don't believe I am any of those listed.

13. See above post
you are a protestant which includes us liberal and those religious nutbags like Falwell & Robertson.

Sorry, but it's the truth!

17. I suggest you read Paul Tillich's thoughts on the "Protestant principle"
if you haven't.

If I understand/remember what he wrote correctly, he believed "the Protestant principle" predated Christianity.

Plus I have about 10 other books I need first - but thanks for the explanation!

20. Neither am I, but you're the one who insisted that UUism be categorized
along with Christian Protestants.

It just ain't the case, and it ain't the case for reasons other than "minute technicalities."

Happy reading!
