Non-"Druglike" Solutions

I am just curious if anyone out there has one of those "closet" medicine men/women in their family with crazy, yet effective cures. Example: My grandma recommends a lemondrop for coughing..it actually works! My dad always says that a beer in the morning will cure any hangover!

Anyone else know of crazy cure alls from their family?

1. Horehound candy is a folk remedy for some colds

Won't actually cure anything, but I've tried horehound sometimes for sore throats related to colds, and it actually helps soothe me sometimes. I think some herbal compounds incorporate horehound nowadays.
