Strawberry question????
I was at the farmers co-op this afternoon and picked up a flat of strawberry plants in 5" peat pots. I won't be able to plant them until tommorow so what do I do with them overnight? Should they be inside or can I leave them outside? It is going to get down to 40 tonight.

Thanks!

1. They should be fine outside
I wouldn't think the plants would have been inside. 40 degrees isn't freezing.

2. leave them outside
tuck them up against the house. If you are worried, you can put an upturned box over them, or throw a sheet over them. I wouldn't worry, strawberries are plenty hardy.

3. They should be OK
As long is it won't frost or freeze, and it's too warm for that anyway.

6. If you are a newbie, dont plan on a decent crop for at least a year
You might see some small ones this summer but next summer will be much better. They do take a while to mature and begin producing decent fruit

7. How long will they live?
I remember Mom having strawberries every year when I was a kid. How many seasons should I expect the strawberries to live?

8. If i am not mistaken, they are like grapevines in that they can
live for years. Taken well care of, they will continue to produce for many seasons. Check any Agricultural college website for help......do a site search on Google. I planted some at a house i rented in Dearborn, MI back in '96. If the new owners have been nice to them, they are probably still doing quite well.

5. water them well
even if it does freeze, in case the forecast is wrong, the water will protect them.
