Give me your best break-up songs
Not too much of the weepy "please come back" stuff, more of the Smashing Pumpkins "I am in pain and that is that" junk.
Much appreciated! :hi:

9. Broken Hearts Are For Assholes
From Frank Zappa, who knew better than anyone that "breakup" songs are a major cause of bad mental health in this country:

Hey! do you know what you are?
You’re an asshole! an asshole!

Some of you might not agree
’cause you probably likes a lot of misery
But think a while and you will see...
Broken hearts are for assholes
Broken hearts are for assholes
Are you an asshole?
Broken hearts are for assholes
Are you an asshole too?
Whatcha gonna do, ’cause you’re an asshole...

Maybe you think you’re a lonely guy
Maybe you think you’re too tough to cry
So you went to The Grape,
Just to give it a try
And Dagmar
Without a doubt, the ugliest sonofabitch I ever saw in my life
Was his name...
One two three four!
The whiskers sticking out from underneath of his
Pancake make-up
And yet he was a beautiful lady
Nearly drove you insane
Let’s talk about leather: leatherrrrrr
And so you kissed a little sailor
Tex Abel, starring in the latest shepperton production:
Who had just blew in from spain
Sir richard pump-a-loaf
You sniffed the reeking buns of angel
The story of a demented bread-boffer
And acted like it was cocaine
Cucumber pud annexed to a fine whole-wheat loaf
You were dazzled by the exciting new costume of ko-ko
Then on Tuesday night, Caesar’s back in town
In a way you can’t explain
Facing off in a no-holds-barred tag team grudge match
With Kona.
And so you worked the wall with Michael
Three-hundred-seventy-nine pounds of Samoan dynamite
Which gave your back an awful strain
Volcanic hell
But you came back on sunday for the Gong Show
Next Thursday, teen town’s finest...
But you forgot what I was sayin’
’cause you’re an asshole, you’re an asshole
That’s right
You’re an asshole, you’re an asshole
Yes, yes
You’re an asshole, you’re an asshole
That’s right
You’re an asshole, you’re an asshole

Now you been to The Grape ’n’ you been to The Chest
’n’ now I think you know what you are: you’re an asshole

You say you can’t live with what you been through
Well, ladies you can be an asshole too
You might pretend you ain’t got one on the bottom of you,
But don’t fool yerself girl
It’s lookin’ at you
Don’t fool yerself girl
It’s winkin’ at you
Don’t fool yerself girl
It’s blinkin’ at you
That’s why I say
I’m gonna ram it, ram it, ram it
Ram it up yer poop chute
Corn hole
Ram it, ram it, ram it
Ram it up yer poop chute
Fist fuck
Ram it, ram it, ram it
Ram it up yer poop chute
Wrist-watch; crisco
Ram it, ram it, ram it
Ram it up yer poop chute
Pud!

Don’t fool yerself, girl
It’s goin’ right up yer poop chute
Don’t fool yerself, girl
It’s goin’ right up yer poop chute
(etc., repeats)

Aw, I knew you’d be surprised...

16. Most of my favorites are the angry "she done me wrong" type
Some of my favorite albums are great break up albums.

Led Zeppelin I is great for that. Your time Is Gonna Come. Dazed and Confused. Communication Breakdown. I Can't Quit You Baby. The whole thing is a great breakup album.

Sheryl Crow's Globe Sessions is another good breakup album. My Favorite Mistake. It don't Hurt. Anything But Down. Crash and Burn.

Dylan's Blood on the Tracks album has some good ones. Tangled Up in Blue. Simple Twist of Faith. Shelter From the Storm.

Fiona Apple's Tidal has some of the more bitter and jaded ones like Shadowboxer.

Foo Fighters, The Color and the Shape. Monkey Wrench and some other songs on that album are good breakup songs.

Garbage 2.0 might be up your alley. It has lots of great angry breakup songs like Hammering in My Head, Special, and Wicked Ways.

Of course there are a lot of great blues ones. My favorite just depends on my mood and the breakup.

18. Do you like Steve Earle?
Try to download Poison Lovers, or Comin' Around

Joni Mitchel's album Blue may be too depressing for you but its one of the greatest albums of all time anyway. It has some great breakup songs. A Case of You, and The Last Time I Saw Richard are good.

19. How Can I Miss You (When You Won't Go Away)
How Can I Miss You (When You Won't Go Away)
by Dan Hicks

I've talked to your mother and I've talked to your dad,
They say they've tried but it's all in vain.
I've begged and I've pleaded, I even got mad,
Now we must face it, you give me a pain.

How can I miss you when you won't go away?
I keep telling you day after day,
But you won't listen, you always stay and stay,
How can I miss you when you won't go away?

Out of three billion people, why must it be me?
OhOh why, oh why won't you cut me loose?
Do me a favor and listen to my plea
I'm not the only chicken in the roost.

Your never-ending presence really cramps my style,
I dream that it won't always be the same.
At first I was attracted, but after a while,
Have you ever heard of a "hard to get" dame?"

.......

It's all about attitude.
