Ideal location, and season of the year?

1. It depends which DUers you're talking about.
I myself will not name names, one way or the other.

You only need to have your asbestos undershorts imploded in a thermonuclear barage of verbiage in GD a couple of times before you sort out that there are some DU'ers you wouldn't cross the street for a chance to meet.

For you, I'd go quite a ways.

9. I'd drive a million miles/ for one of your smiles....
Well, that might be a bit of overkill. But not much.

It might be interesting to say hello to some real, live DUers at some point. As everyone else opined, it'd depend on who they were! I'd have to come dressed in a flight suit, I think, suitably padded.

Will there automatically be yaks present, at any given meeting of two or more DUers?

:D

I thought and thought and came up with 200 miles. Because I just don't believe most of you folks are real.
I will not post this as a bug as I have short term memory problems to begin with and can't with any certainty say that I did not actually vote. Indeed, my selection may have been other than I have described here.
That said, I must vote now.

24. Well, I've 800 miles round trip to visit DUers.
I just made the trip in June to FunDay. Excellent time, and well worth the fun and games of the detoured train ride home.* I seriously had an excellent time. I got to see 5thGenDem and Martin Schraeder again plus I got to meet more DUers!

I only WISH I was able to get to San Fran right now! I do love your town...

Laura

*The train ride home was majorly extended by a large fire that took out the bridges on the main routes out of Chicago. Everything my hosts planned for me went off wonderfully well--it was my own legs of the journey that were painful!

29. I voted 3000, but...
...The actual distance is around 4700 miles as the crow flies. 3000 wouldn't even get me to the East Coast...

33. Rober t is indeed your mother's brother....
You'd be okay.

Here's the as-the-crow-flies distance between London and New York:

3470 miles (5585 km)

Looks like you'd be dumped about 500 miles short, doesn't it.

Ah-ha!

Not everything is as it may at first appear.

Let's assume that the universe is a cube - no reason for doing this, except that I've always kind of wanted to say that - and let's further assume that when 'miles' are mentioned above it was in reference to nautical miles.

That gives us 3016 nautical miles between London and New York. And, given that both Gatwick and Heathrow are somewhat this side of London, and JFK airport is somewhat that side of New York City, you can shave of at least those 16 pesky miles and safely land in the Land of the Free (Steak-Knife-set-with-fillup).

As for the other 1700 or so miles, crossing that is fun in itself.

35. That may be so, though it'd surprise more than a few Freepers
to learn that there's more to the UK than London, BUT - and here the full dimensions of my genius are revealed - he'd catch his JFK-bound jet from the London area. Ha!

I rest my case.

Did you catch the bit about the nautical miles? :-)

Sometimes I scare even myself....

38. No, Forrest
There's a substantial airport in Birmingham. And there's no reason to suspect he'd be bound for JFK, a polar route could easily put him on the west coast in just 9 hours.

Tsk, tsk.

41. Um
aHA! But if he leaves via the Brummy airport he'd splashdown somewhere very cold and unpleasant, if nine hours of flying is somewhere around 4500 miles (un-nautical miles), and that's the whole thing we were trying to avoid - introducing the Long Swim element to his quest. He's only got 3000 miles, so we've got to put them in the right place.

I figure just getting him from one of the London-area airports to JFK is the main hurdle, and that it'd be relatively simple to get him from Birmingham or environs to London and then from JFK to his final destination. Man, I'd make a great travel agent....
