Things you definitely should NOT do while in D.C if you have common sense

Please be patient, I'm at work. Also, serious pitfalls to avoid that only a "local" would know. The common sense one is...uh..humorous.

1. You shouldn't expect any form of customer service.

4. "any" is pretty all-inclusive, but...
Banks, stores, restaurants (non-fine dining only), you name it. Anywhere you have to ask someone to do something for you, the people here will treat it as if you killed their mother. It's really horrible here.

6. Miss the Spy Museum.
I stumbled across it by accident because Ramsey's hotel was right next door. But what a COOL place!

7. I was there for the first time last weekend...
Eat at Old Ebbitt's Grill (walking distance to the White House). Eggs Chesapeake and Bloody Maryland's were really fine (a Bloody Mary is just a Bloody Mary with Ole Bay instead of Salt around the edge and a jumbo boiled shrimp on the side).

All the customer service people, cashiers, and waitstaff were exceptionally nice. Maybe just because we tip well, but I had no complaints.

8. Well, one time I was lost and pulled into a driveway
to turn around when I was lost. Six men stepped out and aimed guns at me. It was the VPs house. Hey, there wasn't a sign. This was 15 years ago. I probably would have been shot nowadays.

shot today, esp. if they knew you were a Democrat and from the DU! Good thing you haven't done this recently...

And California would have lost a true blue citizen. :scared:

10. Hopefully, they have signs now
Yeah, nowadays they wouldn't have let me talk my out of it. I just kept saying I was lost and wanted to turn around. By the end, I felt sorry for them. I didn't mean to freak them out.

I'm glad for another Californian who posts at DU. :hi: We have a battle ahead to defeat Arnie.
