1. Operating from memory,
since my olfactory nerves have not worked for 2 years and 44 days...not that I'm counting.

I picked lavender. Subtle and calming.

I also like lemongrass.

10. I LOVE Yankee's Linen scent...
can't remember the name of it, but it is a clean, light scent.

Yankee candles are the best...can now get them at Cracker Barrels across the US.

17. I buy mine at a local bookstore
East West bookshop in Seattle. I took the sticker off the candle to burn it, so I don't know who makes it (whoops - sorry). You might try doing a Google search for Nag Champa candles, though.

36. Yes, I am insane for vanilla!
When my wife lights a vanilla candle, I become like one of those Looney Toons characters blissfully floating around the room on the aroma.

Mmm -- good stuff!

9. None. Just Plain Wax.
If you can imaginme what 15 pounds of vanilla-scented wax, mixed with the stinky soot from a plastics-fueled housefire, combined with Methylene Chloride and dissolved Poly varnish smells like, then you know why I don't like scented candles.

I did that job almost 20 years ago, and vanilla candles still make me queasy...

12. Other.
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 04:43 PM by Blue-Jay
My favorite is the hazelnut coffee scent. The rest always smell kind of feminine. I thnk that candle companies are missing out on a huge opportunity to attract men to their products.

Proposed scents:

* Bacon - What manly-man doesn't like the smell of bacon?
* Cheeseburger - mmmmm.
* Pizza - The perfect food!

Back to reality: I also like vanilla and peppermint candles.

(edited poorly-placed tags)

21. Another vote for boy candles
How about sawmill scent? Racing fuel? Nachos!

Seriously though, I like outdoors, woodsy scents. One of the scent stores is actually selling men's body wash with an outdoors scent. Would love that in candles. Eucalyptus, pine, and bug spray isn't a scent is it?

46. I hate it too...have a funny story about it.
My guyfriend wore patchouli oil as a cologne. He permeated his home with the smell. No one liked it, and if you visited his house and then went to visit another friend, everyone there would say, "So I can smell that you have been over at Guy's."

Well, my son hated the smell too, and once my guybuddy gave him a hug, and my kid said, "Jeez, don't hug me, you're gonna make me stink like you!"

All the adults kind of looked at their feet, glanced around, choked back laughter, and generally pretended not to know what my kid was talking about. It was a very tense moment. :-)

39. Sandalwood
The smell of Sandalwood turns me into a drooling sex maniac.

I'm not sure why; no guy I've ever met wears Sandalwood perfume. A few of them wore musk, but it's not the same.

And as to Lavender, forget it! That was my grandmother's favorite perfume. She was the Judgemental Bitch from Hell; every time I smell lavender, I expect a steely claw to grip my shoulder, and a voice to hiss "Judy, you've disappointed me again!"

Smells are unbelievably personal; they by-pass the thinking parts of our psyches and go straight to our Reptile Brains.

This is why I both believe/refuse to believe in Aromatherapy!
