Pedro vs Clemens. Red Sox -Yankees thread.
If the Sox take this one they'll take it all IMO.

C'mon Sox, lets make this Clemens'last game ever!

Misery and disappointment is a way of life in Beantown. Nothing that happens today will change that. Pedro is going to do his Oil Can Boyd impersonation and Roger Rocket is going to shoot down the Sox. The only question is, who plays Bill Buckner today?

Oh, and did I mention:

Where in the heck did he come from? Last time I checked he was playing for the Tigers. That was about 3 years ago. Shows you how much I keep up on baseball anymore.
BTW- Randall Simon (Cubbies) played for the Tigs too at one point. I am glad to see him doing well in the playoffs.

and that would be A-Rod, Nomah, Jeter.

But there isn't a single player in baseball you'd rather have in October over Jeter. He's simply the best there is when it really matters.

The Sox were lucky to get out of that with only two runs scored but Pedro should have heard from the umps, if not tossed for threatening to hit someone in the head.

Doesn't matter. The Yanks want him in there today.

That's the Yankees. And besides, if memory serves, the O's lost that series four games to one. The idea that they would have gone all the way would hold a bit more water if they had managed to win even one in Baltimore instead of losing three straight.

45. Zimmer, a former manager of the Red Sox,
was severely beaned early in his baseball career. If I remember correctly, his injury was so severe that he had to stop playing and get into other aspects of the game.

He undoubtedly lost his cool today when he saw Pedro gesturing provocatively at his head.

Zimmer definitely started today's altercation, by charging and flailing at Pedro. He deserved to get pushed down. But Pedro -- and Manny -- are hardly distinguishing themselves as role models of sportsmanship.

I'm a Boston fan, but I think the team is behaving boorishly in these playoffs. Good athletes, but not up to true championship demeanor -- at least not yet.

41. Zimmer lost it.
I think it was very clear that Pedro wasn't looking to duke it out with Zimmer. Don Zimmer was the one moving forward aggressively and he was the one who reached out.

The other thing I'll say is that this whole thing was ENTIRELY Pedro Martinez's fault. Manny Ramirez overreacted for sure, but given what had occured earlier I'm not sure you can place more than slight blame on him.

I cannot believe no one was ejected.

58. You don't think Ramirez deserved to be tossed
for trying to start a fight (running to the mound, bat in hand) on a pitch that was nowhere near him (if it had been lower it would have been a strike)? That wuss was bailing out of the way when the pitch was still 10-20 feet from home plate. He just looked foolish bailing on a pitch over the middle of the plate.

124. Pedro could have gotten out of the way, easily.
Besides, it's not like Zimmer was swinging. He ran up to him to give him a piece of his mind. Pedro's actions tonight were crap. Hitting Garcia like that. Pointing to his head and threatening Posada. Then tossing a 72-year-old to the ground.

And Manny wasn't much better. He had no beef, and yet he started crap anyway.

I don't care who wins this series, but I'm glad the Yankees won tonight. And you can bet that I haven't said that very often in my lifetime.

Take Me Out To The Ballgame is one of the most patriotic songs you can sing. But Bush and co. want to define patriotism.

75. We all agree
...that Bush needs to go.

It's exciting to know that the energy we put into rooting for our favorite team also goes to making sure we have another one-term Bush President.

Regardless of which team wins (and I have my hopes)the bigger game is played next November!

90. These are the Boston Red Sox
If they take the lead in the eighth, it'll only be sio that they can break your heart even more in the ninth (or the 10th ... ah, 1986 ... ).

I don't really care. It's been a great season with a lot of fun. This is gravy. I'll still be a fan next year.

I've been a fan for more years that most people here have been living. :)

Edited cause these old fingers missed a letter.

Ah, the sweet sound of an opposing fan giving up (in game 3; c'mon, you're not in L.A.!!). As a New York fan, I never get tired of it.

I remember watching Oakland fans filing out of their stadium with their team down by just a couple of runs to the Yanks (in 2001) ... in the 7th inning. Weak.

100. You misunderstood
I don't care if they break my heart. I'm not giving up anything. I'm still sure the Yanks will be playing golf next weekend.

And, listen, don't talk about fans leaving the park. Did you see Yankee Stadium in Game 1? Good Lord, the Yankee fans were trying to get home in time for the news.

117. If it's any consolation
Mookie would've beat it out even if Buckner had played it clean. And the game was already tied at that point. BB got WAY too much grief for that. A borderline hall of famer forever damned by one play.

we need 2 runs now for insurance. We face the top of the order coming up and I dont think Mo should get another 6 out save opportunity. He is the best there ever was but that would be a bit too much, even for him.
