How did they turn a book about Mohicans into a movie

about a white guy? The Last of The Mohicans is on and I can't stand it because the Mohicans portrayed in the movie are second hand characters. Native America is one of the last groups that society as a whole has deemed unworthy of treating with respect, or even on the level of human.

Many are guilty, but the right wing is so much more so. One of the more recent arguments lately is that of school mascots. The most common argument put forth by the right is that of, "We're just doing it to honor you. If you don't like it, we can forget about you completely. See if that makes you happy."

These bastards are saying that if they can't demean you and berate you because of your ethnicity, then they won't acknowledge your existence as a human being.

I could go on, but this movie just pisses me off.

4. Not so fast!

I don't know which version you are watching, either. But there is an osmosis, a transferance, a symbiotic creation, if you will, in the concept of a white man becoming a native American and embodying the spirit and admirable attributes.

If you are watching the 1992 version with Daniel Day Lewis and Madeleine Stowe, it is a great movie.

If Hawkeye took on the role of dominating Native Americans, because he is white, I would agree with you. But the opposite happens in this movie and he becomes one with them. There is a great message embedded within this concept.

And yes, Mohicans are secondary characters in the movie, but that's the way the book was written.

9. That is my favorite movie of all time. And, I stayed in Chimney Rock

in North Carolina where the movie was filmed. It was incredible to watch the movie and look out the window and see the places where it had been filmed. Plus, DDL :9 - what a love story! Amazing.

Why in the world would they use NC to film what happened in upstate New York when there are so many beautiful places they could have filmed there? I hope you are wrong because the film's scenes sure look like the Adirondacks to me.

Some of the scenes are on Lake George where Fort William Henry is located.

15. They filmed in NC because of the change of foliage. They needed more

"green" time - so they filmed the movie in Asheville and Chimney Rock, North Carolina. Trust me, the B&B was full of articles and information on the filming of the movie. That final scene where they are on the side of a mountain is Chimney Rock, North Carolina.

On edit: The opening scene of the movie is from the Vanderbilt mansion in Asheville.

The look of intensity and shock on both of their faces in that scene. I always cry at that point in the movie. :cry:

The sound of the rushing waterfall and Magua hot on their trail.

Definitely in my top five of all time.
