OK, in the name of self-deprecation, I'll go first. One time I was overly inquisitive. I'm sure she was thrilled lol

19. Hmmm....
I understand this thread is tongue-and-cheek, but I've had a female offer to "take me out to a great spot, you HAVE to try their pizza," and then just stare at me when the bill arrives. How is that taking me out? Also, I don't think I have ever had a woman offer to pay for anything on any of the dates I have gone out on... I wouldn't let her anyway, but if I am expected to offer, one would think she would be expected to offer, too...

38. Would you say
that it was fair to offer?

My response was to the fact that I am supposed to offer to pay when I am asked out on a date. I generally will pick up the tab anyway, but is there not an obligation from the askER to at least offer to pay for the askEE's meal? I would think so.

I would also expect that if I am supposed to offer to pay when I am asked out, then a female should be expected to offer to pay when I ask her out. I don't do well with double standards, regardless of which sex is favored.

56. oh no...the askee should pay but that is how I got burned
I should have mentioned that...

I asked one guy if he wanted to go to brunch...when I paid he was really bent about it all day....he then had to make up for it by taking me out somewhere excessively expensive...

Then I asked another guy to go to the movies...I paid for the movie and dinner and it really made him feel weird..which he later pointed out to me...

79. gestures mean a lot
Is there not an obligation from the askER to at least offer to pay for the askEE's meal?

Yes there is. But when two people aren't well acquainted and money is being spent its awfully nice if the askEE acknowledges it in some way. I once invited someone to spend a weekend visiting. By the time the weekend rolled around I was unemployed and had no car. For that weekend I rented a car and spent considerable money entertaining him, including a night out at Blue Man Group. He never offered to pay for anything and bragged to me about how his flight was free because of frequent flyer miles earned while travelling for his company. He had a good paying job and he didn't spend a dime that weekend. When I visited him, I paid for my airfare and split the cost of all activites. Never pursued this guy again, and it was because of the $$$$

36. I had a guy once want me to pay for my share...
which I don't mind and offer to do anyway... but you know how you estimate the amount and throw the money in? This guy took out his calculator and seperated it out item by item and then said I was $.14 short! He made a really big deal out of it. So I counted out exactly $.14 and gave it to him.

You should know he was an engineer that made well over $100,000 a year and drove an expensive red sports car ( I didn't like that, I kind of agreed to go IN SPITE of the car)

He wanted a good night kiss and I stuck out my hand and said.. thanks that was interesting.

He emailed me later and asked if something was wrong... I said I thought he was just a little too frugal for my taste and that we wouldn't get a long.. He argued with me! He wrote back claiming he wasn't at all and blah.. blah.. blah.. I finally said .. look you're a tight ass and I'm not interested deal with it.

where I was asked my age, my weight, if my hair color was natural, how much money I make and other nosy questions. Needless to say there never was a second date.

I also made the mistake once of going on a blind date. They guy took me to a comedy club and wanted to sit up front so that the comedian could pick on us. Luckily he picked on someone else. During the act he started touching my hair. And when he drove me home, guess what? He had a flower arrangement in his trunk that gave me. Probably to ensure a second date. Didn't work.

73. Where shall I begin?
These are just some of the Don'ts that I saw perpetrated when I went through my Personals dating phase:

1) Show up in a dirty T-shirt and shorts for a blind date (after I've driven for an hour to get there) and excuse himself after 15 minutes because he has "an important volleyball tournament."

2) Spend the whole dinner talking about the last woman he went out with and how wonderful she was. (So why was he meeting me instead of asking her for another date?)

3) Meeting for coffee at Powell's Books in Portland, coming across as obviously stoned and/or crazy, not to mention sounding exactly like Richard Nixon.

4) Being totally passive, unable to offer an opinion on where to meet, where to sit, what to order.

5) Having no emotional response to anything or any sense of humor. It was like going out with Mr. Spock, only he wasn't nearly as intelligent.

6) Being a compulsive liar: telling me that the Army paid for him to get an M.A. in art history at Oxford and that his profession was restoring Baroque and Roccoco houses in Portland. (Yeah, right. "Portland, that little gem of Baroque architecture on the banks of the Willamette." :eyes: )

7) Crossing the street to avoid walking past a group of African-Americans who were waiting for the light rail.

8) Spending the whole dinner telling me how much his ex-live-in had hurt him by dumping him while he was spending the year in Hong Kong
