After three and a half years, I've finally accrued 1000!

Cripes, I've been a member since 2001 May, and it took me this bloody long!

When I first joined, mine was a tacit liberalism; now, I'm a bitter leftist (M*A*S*H, anyone?). There are certain "movements" that come to mind: all those "Bush is toast" threads that surfaced pre-9/11 (in regards to the Jeffords defection and the ignominious tax cuts); that interesting "I am a Ronin Democrat" thread by Will; the slew of sex threads that would surface every six months (only to be summarily crushed); our collective reaction to the "Shock and Awe" slaughter on March 20; the surreal Oscar saga here at the Lounge; and finally, that dark day on Nov. 2, when some of us were resigned to the fact that, in the words of Graves's Emperor Claudius, "all the poisons that lurk in the mud come out."

Though I may linger in the periphery, please know that you all have meant a great deal to me. This is a damn fine enclave.

P.S. I still don't know what the hell happened to Carlos, who always had a proclivity for pissing me off. If anyone could expound on the circumstances of his departure, I'd be very appreciative.

2. Carlos had a propensity to piss a lot of people off.

He pissed off too many, eventually. Back during the primaries he wouldn't knock off the bashing directed at a specific candidate, and as the rules were changed in an attepmt to facilitate more constructive discussion rather than flamefests, he got the boot.

5. Clearly, a man who does not waste his words. Doesn't talk a lot but...

...when he says something, by God, he means it. A strong and silent James Dean type. The kind of guy who, when he gets to 1,000...well, it MEANS something.

I remember many of the moments you mention, too. Especially the "shock and awe" slaughter- I hardly posted about it 'cause I was near speechless but couldn't get off of here reading the posts; this place was like a support group!
