I used to LOVE that band. Do you have any of their offshoot albums, like Matt's Centar?

1. Finally, someone recognizes my avatar!
Bravo. I still listen to their albums all the damn time, and when they still existed I never missed a show within a 3-hour drive. I was a tad obsessive.

I havent heard Centaur yet, though. Any good?

3. Not bad... Different.
Tim's new band, Glifted (album is called "Under and In")is REALLY different. But it is so darn cool. It's basically just organized noise. Maybe like Mogwai with a meanstreak.

Those guys were just amazing to me. My buddy was like you. Except he would drive to shows that were within about 10 hours away. He lived on the North Dakota / Minnesota / Canada line and would travel to Champaign and Bellville etc. all the time. When the band went their separate ways, he bought Tim's 5150 cabinet and head. It sounds unreal. I remember hanging out with those guys when they were touring with Fuel. All really nice cats too.

I don't know how many times I've just popped in Astronaut and listened to the whole thing through. "I'd like your hair long" still gives me the bumps.

You don't find too many fans out there. Nice to meet you.

4. Just "Stars" but good enough....
Yeah, it had a wicked little guitar riff in the middle. My buddy plays it pretty well too. They played in on MTV (when they still played music) once. Unreal.

Tim's good, but the best member of that band is Bryan, the drummer. What that guy does it simply amazing. The band was just packed with talent.

Too bad Matt was a crappy singer....SHHHHH

10. "Too bad Matt was a crappy singer"
Dude absolutely could not sing for SHIT live - I wonder how many hours he spent re-taking vocals line-by-line on the records. Fortunately their sound guy had the good sense to bury him a little under all that thick guitar din.

Welcome to DU, by the way.

Just say this:

Extremely talented and loud band out of Urbana-Champaign, known for such hits as "Stars", "Green to Me" and "The Pod".

You're in.
