Obscure Sports Trivia Question

Six former Notre Dame QB's have super bowl rings. Name them. I can get five. A guy asked me this one in a bar - no kidding. He could only think of five, also, but he swore there are six.

A couple are no-brainers but it gets hard after that. One of them is kind of a trick question. I am not counting coaches.

Paul Hornung, Terry Hanratty, Joe Montana, Rick Mirer, ....DARN! I can't think of the other two...if indeed there ARE two others! :eyes:

Hornung played QB at ND but halfback and kicker (and gambler) for the Packers. Hornung won the Heisman despite a losing record at ND. (I think this is the only time that has ever happened?) I still am not ready to concede Mirer.

But of course they lost. I can't remember him being on a winning team in the Super Bowl, but of course that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

But who did John Huarte play for in the Super Bowl?

I kept trying to make a case for Daryle Lamonica, John Huarte or Tommy Clements. Even a Tony Rice. But nothing clicked in regard to a winning the Super Bowl.

Huarte dates to mid-'60s at Notre Dame, even before Terry Hanratty, so he must have been a backup on an early Super Bowl titlist if you are correct.

Huarte played for Boston through 1967, spent 1968 with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, was with the AFL's Kansas City Chiefs in 1970 and 1971,

John Huarte was the one I would have never guessed. He must have been a backup to Len Dawson. I checked and he was 2/6 passing the entire year. He was another Heisman Trophy winner who failed as a pro. That is all six unless the question was wrong.

Terry Hanratty of course was a backup for Terry Bradshaw on the Steelers in the70s.
