2. I'm Not a Speed Demon, But...
I always try to exceed the speed limit by at least 5 MPH on highways, weather & traffic conditions permitting. On a 4-lane limited access highway, however, 10 MPH over is more the rule for me.

3. I have the same problem.
I got pulled over one time and told the cop that I couldn't help it,it was heredity. I inherited my lead food from my father. He laughed and that I think got me out of the ticket. He wasn't to uptight:) I try harder now, but I am always over the speed unless I set the cruise control.

5. Depends what I'm driving
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 10:28 PM by GTRMAN
In my truck, I am usually under the limit or right at it. But in the Mark VIII, no way. I have been very lucky on my commute to work so far that I haven't been ticketed or worse. :wow:

<edit typo>

6. *raises hand*
I'm in the double digits as far as speeding tickets go. And I'm only 24.

My car purrs along smoothly at 125 miles per hour. I've only gotten it up there twice, but on average, I do 15 over the speed limit pretty much universally. I am, however, a great, defensive driver. I have never been in an accident, aside from when some asshole clipped my driver's side door in a Taco Bell parking lot. It was totally his fault.

8. If it's speeding that you can't stop.....
doesn't that make it more like meth?

I find I only exceed the speed limit when I driving a larger vehicle equipped with an automatic.

Did you get a ticket or something?

9. Me. And there's a logical reason.
If I am going fast, then I am getting away from dangerous drivers. Wonder how many times bad wrecks have happened five minutes after I passed through somewhere, that I would have been involved in, had I not been speeding.

:D

10. And BTW, the fastest I have ever driven a minivan...
was on the Trans-Canada highway. We were going to a Tigers game in Detroit from Toronto and we woke up an hour late. I went 110 MPH (177 km/hr) the whole way there to make it in time.

12. If you live in Dallas..
... and you don't speed, you will get your ass run over.

Even the police in Dallas basically ignore the speed limit, unless they are trying to be pissy.

************unsolicited non-PC theory follows*********************

Today's cars are much more agile and brake much better than cars of 30 years ago but the speed limits are the same. Most speed limits in town are lower than what can safely be driven so people just ignore them.

13. Most speed limits are a joke
The Highway limit should at least be 70 like in Tennessee and some states. That's reasonable. Driving faster is only more dangerous if you are a bad, reckless driver.

Actually got me out of a ticket just east of Thunder Bay
The OPP was laughing so much when he got in range to read my bumper
he let me go with a warning. :)

24. WHAT?? I've never seen a speed limit of 75 in Mass, and I live here
IIRC, speed limits on highways are 55 until the roads get way beyond the cities, then they're 65. Or is that '7' a typo?

22. it's a true test
When I was younger, I always sped.

Now that I'm in my 30s, I speed on main roads, but stick to the speed limits on any road where there is the potential for kids to run into the street. It kills me to slow down, but it's worth it knowing I could hopefully regain control if a child were to pop out onto the street.

23. I tend to consider the speed limit to be the minimum.
And that includes on city streets. Although, there is often so much traffic on city streets that you can't even approach the speed limit. Which is why it gets exceeded when there isn't any congestion.

I've been really lucky and the last speeding ticket I had was when I was 16. However, I can't count the times I've been pulled over for it.
