I'm watching "Goodfellas" for the millionth time
It is such a work of art. I still can't believe it lost Best Picture to "Dances With Wolves".

The scene where he camera pans over Henry's crew in the bar as they're introduced is classic. And Joe Pesce "What's so funny about me?"

What a movie!

3. Yeah, but it doesn't hold a candle to "Goodfellas"
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 07:55 PM by Kathy in Cambridge
Everything about Goodfellas-from the costume design to the music to the decor-is perfect. And the dialogue is amazing.

7. costume design, music, and decore? I'd say scarface pulls it off better.
At least on those three particular items.

There's something about that enormous orange sunset on the wall of that one guy's office that just screams out "sleazy 80's miami gangster."

4. It Deserved Best Picture.....
...as well as Best Director. "The Aviator" is entertaining enough, but it's no "Goodfellas". Having said that, I still hope Scorsese wins this time around.....

9. For sweeping mob epics, you can't beat "Casino"...
...but I kind of think of "Goodfellas" as a companion-piece. I don't know which one I love more. Probably Casino because Steve Allen is in it, and it has Sharon Stone screaming "I AM CALM!" at the top of her lungs.

Scorsese is my hero! That's why I love this song about him:

"Martin Scorsese" by King Missile

He makes the best fucking films
He makes the best fucking films
If I ever meet him I'm gonna grab his fuckin' neck and just shake him
And say thank you thank you for makin' such excellent fuckin' movies
Then I'd twist his nose all the way the fuck around
And then rip off one of his ears and throw it
Like a like a like a fuckin' frisbee
I wanna chew his fuckin' lips off and grab his head and suck outone of his eyes and chew on it and spit it out in his face
And say thank you thank you for all of your fuckin' films
Then I'd pick him up by the hair swing him over my head a few times
And throw him across the room and kick all his fuckin' teeth in and then stomp on his face 40 or 50 times
Cuz he makes the best fucking films he makes the best fucking films
I've ever seen in my life
I fuckin love him
I fuckin love him

...she plays the mother of the Midwest underboss sent to keep an eye on the Casino for Remo, and she just keeps reacting to his swearing.

Why such a big knife?

It got one of its paws stuck in the grill.

A HOOF.

24. That is my all-time favorite movie! I LOVE IT!
And Scorsese is the only name that will always get me to the theater, no questions asked. Yes, he should have won best director and Goodfellas should have won best picture. Absolutely. And as someone already said, The Aviator is good but not great but I still hope he wins best director--he's been ripped off too much (Goodfallas, Raging Bull). He's the best!

Kathy, did you know that he's going to be shooting a movie in Boston this spring? It's a remake of a Japanese movie, but set in Boston with Irish criminals vs Irish cops. I've got to find out when and where they're filming. It will star Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg.

He's been making a lot of movies with him.

I would LOVE to be an extra on that set! Let me know if you find out anything.

28. And let me know if you find out anything as well.
I'd also love to be an extra on that set.

I'm glad to see Scorsese working with DiCaprio. I can remember when he was a teenager getting critical acclaim for his acting. Back then I saw him in "This Boy's Life" (with DeNiro) and 'Gilbert Grape' and he was excellent. Then he went and did "Titanic," became a star loved by all the little girls, and you didn't hear that talk about him anymore. Folks who hadn't seen his earlier work just wrote him off, not knowing of his talent. Now that he's working with Scorsese a lot, his acting chops can come out and develop even more. I thought he was excellent in "The Aviator." As I was watching it, I forgot I was watching DiCaprio as I just saw the character; I think that's a sign of a good actor.

Michael Imperioli played Spider in Goodfellas and plays Christopher Moltisanti in Sopranos. he shoots one of his victims in the foot.
