Armed Freeper types patrolling Mexican Border What can go wrong?
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=718&e=4&u=/ap/20050221/ap_on_re_us/border_minutemen

WASHINGTON - Intent on securing the vulnerable Arizona border from illegal immigrant crossings, U.S. officials are bracing for what they call a potential new threat this spring: the Minutemen.

Nearly 500 volunteers have already joined the Minuteman Project, anointing themselves civilian border patrol agents determined to stop the immigration flow that routinely, and easily, seeps past federal authorities. They plan to patrol a 40-mile stretch of the southeast Arizona border throughout April when the tide of immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border peaks.

(snip)

Officials fear the Minuteman patrols could cause more trouble than they prevent. At least some of the volunteers plan to arm themselves during the 24-hour desert patrols. Many are untrained and have little or no experience in confronting illegal border crossings.

"Any time there are firearms and you're out in the middle of no-man's land in difficult terrain, it's a dangerous setting," said Bonner, whose agency is keeping a close eye on the Minutemen plans.

2. With any luck...
...these idiots will all shoot each other and the one left standing will be charged with at least manslaughter and jailed. The average intelligence of America goes up as the "problem" takes care of itself.

3. I really hate to say this
but, uh, look for a lot of accidental "Minutemen" deaths. And how shameful that they call themselves Minutemen. Do they even know about the original Minutemen?

For shame.

But yeah, there will be some "hunting accidents."

Is it bad that I chuckled a little when I read that article? Well, I did.

7. Um, they didn't call themselves minutemen...
...their wives did, and that's why they have this need to prove themselves in some other form.

6. Many die of thirst and exposure when crossing the border.
The terrain and environment are unforgiving. This could all turn out badly.

8. Well, they will likely go trouncing around people's ranches, pissing off
ranchers who are already jumpy because drug mules and coyotes (two legged variety) are running around with guns too, leaving gate open and letting cattle loose. Toss in the overworked and often under-supervised border patrol agents, who know they are in danger every day out there... add difficult terrain and a hostile climate... Lots of gunpowder and hot weather coming soon.

Gee, can't think of a darned thing that could go wrong with this vigilante exercise by a bunch of undisciplined Yahoo loose cannons making foreign policy and interfering with real law enforcement.

Yeah, I'm glad I am outta 'zona too. :eyes:
Some animal rights group might wanna hold fund raisers to buy kevlar for the wildlife down there!
