Khephra, then my grandmother, and now Hunter.

I've had a plate full of death this winter, and I'd like to pass on taking fourths if I can.

So no one else die for a while. Please. Thank you.

That is all.

You know, I have the Bottle of fine tequilla I owe you for the bet. I could ship that up to you now instead of waiting for when I finally do the bunny suit

18. But, but...this is a Pancake Free Zone!
I do like my cute picture...and yours is equally cute. Or is that equally as cute?

Oh, darn! I did give up grammar as of the election, for reasons involving "deals with higher powers." I lost that hand.

27. Arthur Miller... I'm so numb, I forgot.
I just watched The Crucible.
Everyone ought to at least read it.
Then Death of a Salesman.

Both seem so current.

7. John Raitt died?
I fell in love with Rogers and Hammerstein listening to Raitt sing "If I Loved
You", which actually began a whole period in my life of listening to musicals.

RIP, John.

4. It sure has been a tough winter, hasn't it?
Sorry to hear about your grandmother--my grandfather passed away in December, and I had to go all the way to China to bring his body home. Here's to a better year...

It sounds like my last winter became your this winter. Did you have the stilling experience of seeing one of your favourite people in the world carried out in a body bag? Memories that just don't go away.

*wipes away tears, still. damn.*

10. things happen in three's ...
... so maybe you're off the hook for a while.

i just had a threesome of tough events last week. things will settle down by thursday.

all of last year was like that - lost a good friend in an argument, lost another in a lawsuit, and one succumbed to heart failure (my favorite). and that was just the winter! that scenario pretty much repeated itself in july, but no one died then.

the good thing was that there were openings for new things, just like i told you last night there was a journalistic, humanisitic niche to fill with hunter's passing. when something closes, something opens. keep your eagle eyes open, will, and you'll see it's all ok in the end.

15. There's a whole lotta sadness lately.
I'm sorry. I really wish I could do something to help carry part of the pain I see here every day, including yours, Will.

I've contemplated before that so many things touch us, and then pass away from our lives. I have come to the point that I celebrate every day I have with those I love and care for.

May you make a speedy journey to the point that you can celebrate the ability to feel and the joy of the encounter rather than mourn the losses. May your path brighten soon.

Laura

FWIW, I dunno if it makes you ill or helps--but I am not planning on going ANYPLACE anytime soon! You are all STUCK with me! :)

16. January and February are the worst months.
One of my dear friends committed suicide in January of 99. Then my grandmother passed away two weeks after that.

All three of my other grandparents died in Jan. or Feb.

I just don't like those two months, not at all.

But I'd like to second (or third, or fourth) your plea for no more.

was painfully heart-felt. All the emotions coming to the surface, maybe.

Words don't always help in times of loss, but I've found that thoughts do. Lots of DUers keeping you in their thoughts today, Will.

However, I am not quite sure that you'd notice. I plan on living for quite awhile, though.

I will try and make sure no one else dies, though. Although working for a non-profit might not be the best profession for that...

22. Here's a song to ease the strife of losin' another valued life....

Pink Floyd ~ Childhood's End from Obscured By Clouds circa 1972

You shout in your sleep
Perhaps the price is just too steep
Is your conscience at rest
If once put to the test?
You awake with a start
To just the beating of your heart
Just one man beneath the sky
Just two ears, just two eyes

You set sail across the sea
Of longpast thoughts and memories childhood's end
You fantasies merge with harsh realities
And then as the sail is hoist
You find you eyes are growing moist
All the fears never voiced
Say you have to make your final choice

Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why?
Some are born
Some men die beneath one infinite sky
There'll be war, there'll be peace
But ev'rything one day will cease
All the iron turned to rust
All the proud men turned to dust
And so all things, time will mend
So this song will end

25. I understand, believe me. In one year I lost my grandmother
my favorite aunt, my mother and another aunt.

Basically that was over a time span of 13 months starting last January, and none of the deaths were unexpected, but still you are never really ready for them.

This is not including much admired famous persons, which make me sad because they seem to become so much a part of us.

26. Sorry, it just keeps happening.
I've lost 2 uncles in the past few months, and now my friend Bob died yesterday at age 55 of a heart attack while shovelling snow.

Fuck...

So yeah, I've had my share of death and am full up too.

29. Labor and Delivery Nurses
are some of the most superstitious creatures on earth and we all share two beliefs. First, that one must never utter the word "quiet" when the labor deck is, in fact, quiet and second, that all bad things come in threes, only threes, not twos or fours.

So, you're all done now as long as you don't say the "Q" word. ;)
