Jeezuz, you can't say shit without people crawling up your ass... it's unfuckingbelievable over there sometimes.

15. No Kidding
People like to show off in GD and prove how smart they are.

17. It's the grain of salt I take with posts here.
I have found great reward in letting it put things in perspective.

2. What is with all this GD bashing?
There are folks who like both boards, why does this come up so much? Genuinely curious.

5. "why does this come up so much?"
I'm not the first one to mention this?

Hey, just because I'm annoyed with GD for the moment doesn't mean that I'm going to stop going there. It can be too much sometimes.

11. You could do what I do.
I frequently use the ignore button. I had 82 people on ignore once. If someone's got some huge damage, are they really worth your time on DU? It's a matter of managing the time you have to spend on politics. In many ways it's the right thing to do for your country.

Remember that thread that asked how long it would take to put 50,000 on ignore lol.

13. What sucks is when an ignored person responds to one of my posts.
I get curious as to what it might be, and then I go and unignore half of the list, and see if that fixes it, and go back and do half of what's left, etcetera. It'd be better if I could just peek at who it is so I can just unignore that one person, but half of the list gets a reprieve when I'm trying to find who that one person is.

31. Hey, all you have to do to read an ignored person's posts
is log out of DU and read it that way. It's alot less laborious than what you describe. (Hoping you can read this post :))

14. Wow - 82 people on ignore...
I don't use ignore - I just remember poster names and avoid certain ones.

I try to remember that not all posts deserve a response. Sometimes the best policy is to let a thread die.

18. Most of the people I put on ignore are usually freepers.
I went the longest time without checking my ignore list, when I finally did, almost all of them had since been tombstoned.

20. That's why I stopped using it
By the time I had used ignore, the poster was gone. Most of the obvious ones are gone so quickly that it doesn't matter.

27. Too bad we can't get scalps...
While I have no idea how the admins/mods would allocate them it would be an interesting side show to see who has the most "freeper scalps".

8. we in the lounge
prefer to keep a humorous eye on political events. SOME gd posters do not. thus, when a loungian posts in gd, there CAN be clashes. we don't have a problem with those who like both forums, or at least keep a sense of humor

10. Well that's what I mean
I like coming to both forums but when I see the GD posts here and people saying "don't go there or take a shower" it's hurtful. Some of us are sensitive ya know! :)

23. Many of us have been burned there.
I've had some people flame me, making assumptions about me without knowing me at all. Just by their reading a single post of mine. I'm trying to have a decent discussion, and they're jumping to conclusions about me.

In the Lounge people are much more laid back and forgiving. Unless the poster is really obnoxious--and even then, the Lounge Lizards will more likely ignore it.

It is frustrating because the Lounge can be and often is pretty frivolous conversation. But GD can be so mean, it's hard to have a real discussion there, either. the result is that I respond a lot more to the frivolous Lounge posts than to the GD threads that really make me think. Because when living in BushLand, who needs to voluntarily invite more abuse?

3. haha - wasn't there another thread along these same lines in the Lounge?
I totally agree. I hang out in GD and GDP a lot - it can be fun and if I want to talk about politics, it's the best place.

But my God, these people are thin-skinned. I want to scream sometimes, with all the purity tests, there's just... so...much...heat. It gets your blood pressure up, definitely.

6. "these people" are our people!
I do think folks get thin skinned when they see threads like this. It's like talking about someone from the next room with a very thin wall!

34. And we love them - but they can be a bit over-the-top
GD and GDP are fun, but it's very, very stressful. I understand that people are passionate and also that on an anonymous internet site, people are inclined to say things they wouldn't say in person. But it's still pretty annoying sometimes.

We are in a situation where normally we would react with extreme and deadly violence, but where we know it would be futile right now.
