the right title)? What a movie! If they read this forum and if they come down here, I want to go on the next trip.

Be Baa Boooooo Baaa BAAAHHHH

I had forgotten the scene about the fake "chemical disaster" that caused them to evacuate that whole area. When the movie first aired, I thought it far fetched, though probably possible. Today, no so far fetched.

4. I liked it better before Spielberg tampered with it
I like that the appearance of the inside of the ship was a mystery, but then when he re-released the "Director's Cut" in 1981 or so, he spent hundreds of thousands showing us just that - killing the mystery.

It was also more clever to make the McDonald's part of the model railroad set, instead of a real one, like he did with the remake. Those little details matter. Then again, his success went to his head by then, so his poor judgment makes sense.

Sometimes it is best to leave things alone.

Richard Dreyfuss, as always, is great in just about anything he does.

7. I don't know if the one they showed was the directors cut, I don't
think so. I don't recall seeing the inside of the ship. Just the bright lights emanating from the opened door and the tall alien in the door way and then a bunch of shorter aliens milling around outside of the ship.

11. it's one of the first movies I have memories of...
I loved it, thought Richard Dreyfuss was great. I need to dig the movie out and watch again.

5. Yeah, it was actually a very well done movie.
From back when Speilburg used to know how to make them.

8. Isn't he doing a remake of the War of the Worlds?
I think I read he was and that Tom Cruise is in the film. If that's the case, I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD and borrow the film, I hate Cruise movies.

10. The Last Samurai was fucking horrible.
In fact, it's probably the worst self aggrandizing dreck that Cruise has ever put out.

13. O.o
we probably don't agree on movies then. i believe in just watching a movie, and not nitpicking every little thing out of it...if something doesn't jerk me away from the pure enjoyment of a movie, then it's a decent movie. a good movie is one that really shows me something i've never thought about before on a subject...

it may not have been a perfect representation, but it was a damn good movie. considering that it had tom cruise, other characters seemed to be just as important. sorry you didn't like it.

15. I damn near had walked out of the theater is was so ridiculous.
Tom Cruise is this drunken Indian Killer, apparently we're supposed to feel sorry for him, because he feels guilty for murdering Indian women and children. Then he goes to Japan where he's supposed to do the same with the Japanese, only he gets captured. Then he becomes one of them. And they're all mowed down and killed by machine guns in the end. Except for Tom Cruise, who gets mowed down but some how lives. Hurray.

I feel the exact same way as the guy on the Chapelle show, next time it's going to be "The Last Nigger on Earth" starring Tom Hanks.

16. well, when i need someone else's opinion on a movie, i'll come to you.
until then, i feel quite confident of my own ability to choose movies i enjoy for their merits. it's hollywood, if they tried to convey actual stories the heads of the audiences would explode. except, no doubt, the merry movie-analyzers brigade.

i'd rather sit and let the movie envelop me than try to figure out every nuance.

14. I added the "s" to encounter thanks to RoBears keen eyes and post
I just loved the movie, it has been years since I saw it and watching it today was so different from the years ago. I think the anthrax scare really hit home.

I believe I watched the first version of the movie and not the director's cut.
