1. Me! I do!!!!
Especially when they sang it at Woodstock!

"This is only like the second time we've played in front of a crowd"!

It's getting near the point, where I don't love you anymore.....

Love it!

19. Actually it goes
It's getting to the point
Where I'm no fun anymore.

I am sorry.
Sometimes it hurts so badly I must cry out loud.
I am lonely.

4. I do, as I used to sing it with my brother's friends who played guitars
It's getting to the point
Where I'm no fun anymore
I am sorry
Sometimes it hurts so badly
I must cry out loud
I am lonely
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
And you make it hard -

Remember what we've said and done and felt
about each other
Oh babe, have mercy
Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now
I am not dreaming.
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
And you make it hard-

Tearing yourself away from me now
You are free and I am crying
This does not mean I don't love you
I do, that's forever, yes and for always
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
And you make it hard-

Something inside is telling me that
I've got your secret. Are you still listening?
Fear is the lock, and laughter the key to your heart
And I love you.

I am yours, you are mine, you are what you are
And you make it hard-
And you make it hard-

Friday evening, Sunday in the afternoon
What have you got to lose?
Tuesday mornin', please be gone I'm tired of you.
What have you got to lose?
Can I tell it like it is? Help me I'm sufferin'
Listen to me baby-Help me I'm dyin'
It's my heart that's a sufferin', it's a dyin'
That's what I have to lose
I've got an answer
I'm going to fly away
What have I got to lose?
Will you come see me
Thursdays and Saturdays?
What have you got to lose?

Chestnut brown canary
Ruby throated sparrow
Sing a song don't be long
Thrill me to the marrow
Voices of the angels ring around the moonlight
Asking me, said she so free
How can you catch the sparrow?
Lacy, lilting, lady, losing love, lamenting

Change my life, make it right
Be my lady.

Doo, doo, doo, doo-doo doo doo doo, repeat

20. You forgot . . .

Que linda me la traiga Cuba,
la reina de la Mar Caribe.
Cielo sol no tiene sangreahi,
y que triste que no puedo vaya,
Oh va, oh va, va.

THey used a very odd guitar tuning for the lead on that tune. Every string was tuned down to an E except the B which was left alone. It gave it a very odd sympathetic vibration (nearly like a sitar sound).

40. I've played it both ways, and to my ear, EEEBE sounds more like
the original.

I'm no authority, but that worked for me :).

23. You guys got me listening to it
And I worked out what the vocal harmony parts are in that song. Its pretty complicated but what a thrill it would be if three friends could get together and pull it off.

8. It is amazing
But one of the reasons it sounds so good is that they doubled their vocal tracks. Sounds great but it is a bit of cheat.

9. Wooden Ships is my fave
doubling vocal tracks doesn't bother me... some of their live stuff is a mess, but the Woodstock perf is good imo

31. Did anyone but me think at the time . . .
That "Wooden Ships" was based on Cyril Kornbluth's short story "Shark Ship" of about 1959?

I suppose I could have sent the question to CSN's record co at the time, but I was so sure I was right I didn't want to risk finding out otherwise (the "Don't confuse me with the facts" approach).

22. I've had it on the brain a lot lately. I don't recall hearing my mom
listen to it, and yet I somehow associate it with her. Must be the generic "hippy rock" thing. ;)

28. Well.. up and down. I have been eating like crazy lately because
when I am too full I can't feel any emotions. So I guess I have been eating my sadness. Not the healthiest thing to do, I know, but I have always been like that.

I love that song too. My favorite concert ever was a CSN concert in 1990. They looked a whole lot older but sounded great!
Thanks for reminding me that I haven't listened to that album in a while!

41. Purely beautiful music.
Even when they were new, they were not considered as politically relevant or "heavy" as other groups. (With the addition of Neil Young, the equation changed a bit.)

But fine tunes, performed with skill, age better than some of that "voice of a generation" stuff. Time to fire up the turntable.

Nice set of movements, great vocal performances, better guitar work than any thing Steve Stills ever did before or since. What's not to like?

When they made that expression "They don't make 'em like that anymore", well, that sure applies in this case.
