Saw Roger Ebert speak tonight (at a book signing)
He was a great speaker, and the kind of person who could've gone on for hours if he'd gotten the chance. He completely lambasted Michael Medved for spoiling Million Dollar Baby. He said that just because you disagree what the movie portrays doesn't mean it's a bad movie, and also that it doesn't really matter what YOU would have done -- because it's about the CHARACTERS and what the CHARACTERS would do. Other than that, it was a very good talk, and he's very very funny.

Anyway, when I went up to get my book signed (I didn't have his latest -- just "I Hated, Hated, Hated, This Movie." He wasn't supposed to personalize the books, but when I went up he said "I know I'm not supposed to do this...but what's your name?" I told him and on the title page, he wrote my name, and under "I Hated, Hated, Hated, This Movie" he put "....but YOU'RE OK!"

4. By giving away the ending
Several right wing jerks have been doing that, because they disagree with the movie's "moral values". So, they are trying to kill it at the box office by spoiling it for people.

5. The sumbitch gave away the plot!

"Hi. I don't know shit about movies, but I sure can bash them liberals!"

I like Roger Ebert. In fact, I just now re-read his essay on "The Producers," because I just saw it for the first time and wanted to read his thoughts on it.

6. Everything you see in the previews of Million Dollar Baby...
happens in the first 10 minutes of the movie. That's how important it is that the rest of the film not be known before you see it.

Medved is an eeeeeeddddddiot.

7. I probably would've seen the movie by now if I hadn't known the plot,
but I'll still see it soon anyway.

Actually, for the longest time, I thought Ebert was a moderate conservative (for some reason). Then I read his essays about the 2000 election and was proven way wrong.

However, he did give a good review to "Michael Moore Hates America."

3. Ebert has really great politics.....
I came across an interview with him on the internet recently. He's very
smart, and politically savy.
