Multiple flaws found in Linux kernel
Multiple flaws found in Linux kernel

A number of vulnerabilities have been found in the Linux kernel, according to the advisory service Secunia..

All these vulnerabilities affect the 2.6 series kernel and can be exploited by local users to gain access to potentially sensitive information, cause a denial of service, or bypass certain security restrictions.

One of the flaws concerns insufficient permission checking in the "shmctl()" function. This function is used by applications to perform operations on shared memory.

One such operation allows an application to lock or unlock regions of shared memory. A locked region of shared memory cannot be swapped out to disk, and so is said to be "locked". Conversely, an "unlocked" region of shared memory may be swapped out to disk.
