Remember, "Nazis, I hate these guys!"

He was definitely smart enough to recognize the parallels between Hitlerism and the modern right.

Also, after what happened to the Ark, I doubt he has any great love of the U.S. Government when it abuses its power, as it is doing now.

7. Some of the Biblical characters
certainly Jesus and Moses were Progressive Democrats (altho I think Father In Law Jethro tried to make Moses into a Repug - or at least an Eisenhower type CEO, read Exodus XVIII, Verses 18-27 -- right out of a management book).

PS - I regard thee figures as fictional - allegorical.

...that was responsible and did its part as a member of a reasonable ant society by preparing and saving for tough times ahead, whereas the Republican Grasshopper only cared about itself and its own fleeting luxury so it pissed the future away and ran up massive budget deficits.

27. labor issues?
come on the Umpa Lumpas had great gigs, and they didn't even need to apply for work visas when they fled persecution to come and work with Wonka. And how many "wealthy industrialists" give away their fortune to a kid and his impoverished family?

39. The Umpa Lumpas were slave labor
they got paid in chocolate. They had no economic opportunity and weren't allowed to leave the factory.

Giving the factory to the poor kid was a nice touch, but he had no heir of his own and so wanted to make sure the autocracy wound up in the hands of one who would run it "his way" and "take care" of the oompah loompahs.

On a serious note, in the original published version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the OLs were clearly African pygmies, which brought accusations of racism. Roald Dahl said that, while he didn't conceive of them in that manner, he found himself agreeing with the critics when exposed to their perspective, and so later editions carried revised illustrations and the movie had the oompah loompahs made up to be clearly fantastical.

67. The Little Old Lady who lived in a shoe was a Republican
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe
She had so many children, she didn't know what to do
She gave them some broth without any bread
She whipped them all soundly and sent them to bed

Let's see here...staunch opposition to birth control, stinginess, child abuse. (We have no indication that the children did anything to justify corporal punishment.)

Definitely a Republican.
