Anyone else been here longer than they've been here?

I'm talking about lurking before posting.

I probably hold the record for "Longest Lurker" since I knew of this site pretty much since the begining, but i didn't start posting until last Oct.

I mostly just read the articles at first, and lurked on the message boards off and on...

I tried posting at several websites over the years, only to get flamed if I said something bad about Bush or something nice about Kerry.

But now that I am here...I think I'll stay!

1. I started lurking in February of 2001....

and joined 10/8/2001.

Didn't have a home computer until January of 2002, and it was difficult to read at work. Notice how quickly after joining that I bought a computer.

9. For me it was because...

After a while...they wouldn't accept a "Free E-mail address" in order to join, and for years all I had was a crappy Yahoo account.

I finally got a DSL account that came with a new address, so I finally got in. :hi:

I lurked on & off for over a year before I started posting. I didn't wait cos I was shy or anything, but I was just busy with the whole get-out-the-vote thing that I didn't have time to post till after the election. . .

Now I am here to stay! ;)

4. I lurked for a year...

You have me beat, but I have a better how I got here story. I was directed to a pro-republican site by a republican friend, and this site was on its list of opposition sites. At first it sounded almost militant, but I immediately fell in love. I don't have enough time to post a lot, I am making an attempt to post 4 times a day and more on the weekends... I have found the place I belong and have introduced several others to the joys of DU.

5. Kind of.

I started lurking September 2002. I signed up originally in November 2002, but in the first 8 or 9 months I was here, I hardly posted (like about 200 posts that whole time). It wasn't until August 2003 that I started posting a lot. Then a year ago, I decided to change my name. Anyway, it took me awhile to warm up. Now, people only wish I'd could shut up. :7

don't shut up--there's nothing duller than a lounge with zero updates happening! Plus you don't pick fights, or post abrasive messages so keep 'em coming! :)

on edit: it's amazing how forgetting the word "or" totally changes a sentence's meaning!

6. My husband joined

in Feb 2001 and I read over his shoulder for a while. I never really thought about making my own user name until after later. I joined in August 2003, but as you can see, most of my activity was "lurking".

8. I was an "involuntary" lurker

since; I think it was 2001--I hopped over from mediawhoresonline--but I only had a hotmail account so I couldn't register. No I have a more permanent email--and when I get my taxes back I'm gonna donnate! :hi:

18. Well, I found the site in March of 2003

but didn't register and start posting until October of 2003, so I guess I just lurked for around 6 months. A small period of time compared to yours, but still fairly substantial. I was also really shy about posting at first, but I'm pretty relaxed about it now.

But some of the people I've met here, and some of the feelings we've shared, has made it all worth wile.
