Have you ever noticed it when a poster has gone missing?

I'm not talking people who have been banned (which I know is a forbidden topic so I won't mention it further) so I hope the Mods understand. I'm talking about people who just sort of stopped posting all of a sudden.

There are a few I noticed, who used to post here frequently, but I haven't heard from some of them in weeks.

Maybe there just on vacation, or maybe they just lost interest in DU. I hope I'm not getting all schmaltzy on ya, or making it sound like I'm taking DU too seriously...I just notice these things, that's all...

Then again it might just have been my smelly feet that drove them off.

I remembered when I started posting here and people were posting back and forth like they knew each other I thought there is no way you can keep up with the number of posters here. Now I know a zillion posters and sometimes I'll notice they been gone for a while. I usually shoot them a PM to see why.

There are a few posters I had some very long PM correspondences with, then "Poof" they're gone, just like that.

Of course if they are no longer logging into DU, then they would never read the PM if I sent them one.

Oh well, internet relationships can be weird sometimes...

And it fit in with what you were talking about earlier, Mrs. G. pagerbear was involved in a thread in GD, said something that a few assholes ripped him apart over, and he just said enough is enough. I'll try again...I keep us with him in emails.

There is something strange about cyberspace and the transient contact with people.The net is a strange place of comings and goings.

I was also thinking about a poster on another site called Drudge Retort - a no holds barred, slugfest between left and right. I came across it before I found DU. Anyway one guy was absolutely brilliant at pulzerizing rightwing bozos. His postings were funny and insightful as hell. It seems he was posting there because he was laid up with a broken leg and stopped posting when the cast came off.
